Flood Debris Can Be Dropped Off at City Waste Center

Citizens who have damaged household items from the record rainfall last weekend can take them to the city’s Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Ave. There is no charge for citizens of Louisville/Jefferson County. Residents will need to provide two forms of ID—drivers license and utility bill— to verify they live in Jefferson County. The flood debris drop-off runs through Saturday, October 26th, 2013. Hours for free drop off are: M-F   8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  /  Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Waste Reduction Center is normally closed Mon. and Tues. but will be opened for citizen flood debris drop-off only. Business or commercial vehicles will have to pay the normal fees for dumping flood debris or other materials during this period.

If citizens hire an individual or business to remove flood debris, they will need to accompany them to the drop-off or provide the hauler with their two forms of identification to present at the facility.

For information, call MetroCall 311 or visit www.louisvilleky.gov.

Take Steps for Fun, Health this "WalkTober"

Fall's cooler weather and colorful foliage make October a great time to explore the city on foot. The Mayor's Healthy Hometown and the YMCA of Greater Louisville encourage you to discover the many benefits of walking and to find a new path to fitness starting this month.

Aim for 30 minutes of walking a day, four days a week to start, then gradually increase your walking to five or more days a week for 45 to 60 minutes. Find a route you can enjoy. Three great walking venues in our area are Jefferson Memorial Forest, Iroquois Park and the Levee Trail at Riverview Park. Walking with friends or a walking group helps build and maintain your motivation.

Share your photos and comments about walking with the community via email to walktober@louisvilleky.gov or Twtter using hashtag #walktoberlou.

Click here for list of charitable walks and runs throughout the month, like the Making Strides event highlighted below.
