What if the Ohio River was
lined with sandy beaches, from Valley Station to Prospect?
What if you could get to
Cincinnati, Indianapolis or Lexington in 45 minutes without ever getting in a
car?
What if every child in
Louisville could walk or bike to school safely?
These are some of the ideas
beginning to surface in the Vision Louisville project as Mayor Greg
Fischer seeks in input for how the city should look, feel and flow over the
next 25 years.
Vision Louisville is a
community project to guide the future of Louisville and shape the built
environment -- and the mayor is seeking input in numerous ways, from physical
community meetings to virtual Twitter sessions.
“Louisville is constantly
growing and changing,” Mayor Fischer said about the project. “Over the next 25
years we will see significant change, and we want input from the community on
what those changes should be and how our city should look, feel and flow.”
Vision Louisville is
seeking public input in seven categories: economy, energy, connectivity,
creativity, health, living and identity. A committee of citizens has been
formed around each category to seek community ideas.
You can submit your idea

With support from the
Humana Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters has launched a new
across-generations mentoring program that will benefit local children while
improving the overall wellbeing of adults 55 and over who participate. The goal
is to match an additional 50 senior Bigs with children ages 7-16 by year’s
end. You don’t need special skills to be
a Big – just the willingness to listen, offer encouragement and share what
you’ve learned about life. Littles are typically come from families headed by a
single parent who simply wants the best for their child, but does not have the
time they would like to spend with the child.
These children just need a BIG friend!
“You forget you’re in a ‘program’ cause you’re having
fun,” said Big Steve in a TV-aired interview.
Volunteering a few hours a month toward your year-long
relationship can provide something amazing for a child. You also receive
monthly support from a “Match” Counselor as you report on your progress.
There are two ways to meet with your Little –
·
On-site at a school or community center
·
Community wide, diverse outings from home.
Activities you can do as Bigs and Littles include trips
to the library, enjoying one of our
local parks, playing card games or doing craft projects. Big Brothers Big Sisters offers monthly free
events for all matches. So, have some fun, learn a few things and make a
valuable difference in developing the next generation! Volunteering a few hours
a month can start something amazing for a child.
