MetroTV City Files 19

MetroTV

I recently taped a new video for MetroTV that is available to watch online here.  It is focused on Kelley Green Biofuel, which is creating clean burning biodiesel from waste cooking oil.  You can recycle your waste cooking oil in a container in the Clifton Center’s west side parking lot, and Kelley Green will use it to make biodiesel, which is sold to local farmers and for use in cars.  If your restaurant is interested in having Kelley Green pick up your waste cooking oil for free, you can learn more at http://kelley-green.com/.  The other part of the MetroTV feature focuses on exciting initiatives in Parkland, in District 1, represented by Councilwoman Attica Scott.  Watch it today to learn about these projects around Louisville.

Message from LG&E

LGE Call Before you Dig

Every eight minutes, an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without first calling 811 or having their underground lines marked in another way. Each digging project requires a call to 811 to prevent damage to underground lines, injuries and disruption of service.  Residents should have their lines marked by calling 811 at least two business days before performing any excavation work, including the following: Installing a mailbox, installing a fence, planting trees or shrubbery, building a patio or deck, excavating a garden, installing a pool, or any other work that requires digging.  After calling 811, members from all affected utility companies in the area — including LG&E — will mark the location of the lines.  811 is the national number designated by the Federal Communications Commission to help protect homeowners and professional excavators from unintentionally hitting underground utility lines while working on digging projects — large and small.  To read more please click here.

Bridge repairs underway on Interstate 65 in Jefferson County
Louisville, KY – Motorists traveling on Interstate 65 in Jefferson County may not be aware of bridge repairs that are taking place.  That’s because the work is being done underneath the roadway to the overpass at Brook and Kentucky Streets.  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) awarded a contract earlier this spring for repairs to the substructure of this bridge and replacement of four pier caps.  Construction began the week of June 10 with the initial traffic impacts affecting the sidewalks and on street parking at Brook Street and Kentucky Street underneath I-65. As part of this project, the caps on four piers will be removed and replaced (see example in photo below).  During phase of work, the exit ramp from southbound Interstate 65 to St. Catherine Street (Exit 135) will be closed.  This ramp closure is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, July 8 and continue for 60 days.  A signed detour will be in place via I-65 South to Arthur Street.  From there motorists will be directed to East Brandeis Avenue and South Brook Street where they can access St. Catherine Street.

Intech Contracting LLC was awarded the contract for this project in the amount of $982,360.  The contract completion date is November 15, 2013.    The actual duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Dial 511 or log on to 511.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at www.facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5.
