Mayor Fischer shares a laugh with members of the Sudanese Rebaba Project who provided a poignant performance in the Mayor’s Gallery Nov. 1, part of the monthly Mayor’s Music & Art Series. The Rebaba performers fled war in Sudan years ago, resettled in Louisville and now perform their native music using handmade instruments. The next performance will feature singer Carly Johnson and guitarist Craig Wagner on Dec. 6.

Louisville’s world-renowned Festival of Faiths begins five days of events at various locations with a theme of “Sacred Fire: Light of Compassion.” See details and schedule.

11/8/12                The Y’s Safe Place Program in Louisville earns $10 million federal grant
The hugely successful Safe Place program, which was born in Louisville in 1983 and now protects young people in more than 1,500 communities across the U.S., is receiving $10.5 million in federal funding which will help extend its work. See details.

Fri. Nov. 9, 11:30 a.m.     Mayor Fischer speaks at the 2012 Manufacturers and Employee of the Year awards sponsored by the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers.  Advanced manufacturing is one of the key economic development clusters for Louisville and the surrounding region.  The Galt House.

Sun. Nov. 11, 2 p.m.        Louisville’s Veteran’s Day Parade. Starts at 4th and Liberty and ends on W. Main St. near 9th.

Mon. Nov. 12, 6 p.m.  “Talk to Greg” at Stuart Middle School. Come out and share a suggestion or concern with Mayor Fischer. 4601 Valley Station Rd.

Wed. Nov. 14, 10:30 a.m.       News conference opening the “Shawnee College Shop” a one-stop site for youth in the Shawnee neighborhood helping promote lifelong learning and obtaining a college degree, in partnership with the 55,000 Degrees initiative. Shawnee Branch Library.
