Crime Update!

Police Make Arrest In String Of Home Burglaries

Louisville Metro police arrested a man they believe is responsible for a string of burglaries in the Metro area. On Tuesday of this week, police arrested James Patrick McGregor, age 30.

Police said 16 homes were hit over the past three weeks, primarily in the Highview, Okolona and Fern Creek areas.

The only clue police had was the suspect may have been driving a black Volkswagen Jetta.  McGregor is charged with four counts of burglary.

If you see crime occurring, please contact the Louisville Metro Police Department. Call 911 for emergencies only.  Call 502-574-7111 for non-emergency related help or to find a towed vehicle. Call 574-LMPD to report crime tips.

Expired Drug Toss Event THIS SATURDAY!

This Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., the DEA will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets.  This is a Drive-Up event so there is no need to leave your vehicle.  Please place all tablets and capsules into a zip-lock bag, vials should be placed into another bag or container, bottled liquids and tubes of medication should be placed into separate bags as well.  This is an event for private citizens, no businesses please.

·      Louisville Metro Urban Government Center, 810 Barret Avenue
·      Jefferson Mall, 4801 Outer Loop
·      Kroger, 5929 Timber Ridge Drive, Prospect, Kentucky
Medication products should NEVER be flushed down the toilet or drain, burned in the open or thrown in the trash because:
·      They can contaminate the environment if they get into the drinking and ground water.
·      They may kill bacteria or produce drug resistance bacteria in sewage treatment plants and septic systems if flushed down the drain.
·      Burning can release toxic pollutants into the air.
·      They can be scavenged from your trash receptacles to be illegally used or sold.
·      They can be taken mistakenly and cause serious health problems.

Here are some of the items the Expired Drug Toss organizers are encouraging residents to bring in:

·      Expired or unused medications
·      Bulk or loose tablets and capsules
·      Medications that should have been kept cold but were not.
·      They urge residents to black out all personal information on ALL medication containers.

Items NOT accepted at the event:
·      Sharp needles
·      Used or unused sharp, hypodermic needles & lances
·      Cosmetics, personal care or hygiene items

Join us for one of the great Homecoming traditions here at Fern Creek High School, the annual Alumni Breakfast. It's a chance to see old friends and make new ones, tour the school, stock up on your Creek apparel and enjoy a great meal.

The food this year is being catered again this year by the Fern Creek High School Cooking Club.  You've read about them in the Courier Journal and now here is your chance to enjoy a sumptuous breakfast prepared by the student chefs. Last year's meal was absolutely incredible!

This year's special guests come in two categories. The current members of the Marching Tiger Pride Band will perform, under the direction of Mr. Carl Kling. And all alumni who were in the band in school will be recognized (especially those who were part of the Alumni Band performance at the Homecoming football game the night before!)

If you are a current or former teacher at Fern Creek, we'd love to have you be our guest at the event. Just email me and we'll make arrangements for you to attend free of charge.

In addition, the Creek Corner store will be open so you can go home with some great new clothing items. (Everyone looks better in orange and black!)

Finally, we'll end the morning with tours of the school. It's a great morning of Fern Creek fun and fellowship.

Click on the link below to register for breakfast. Cost is $10. ($9 for Alumni Association members). You can pay now by credit card or register and mail in a check. The Alumni Breakfast is always a lot of fun -- Don't miss it!  Register Now!

TARC

TARC offering special service to St. James Art Fair

$6 per carload covers parking and bus service

TARC is again offering public transportation from downtown Louisville to the St. James Court Art Show Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7.

“As popular as St. James is, on a nice day finding a parking space near the event area is a challenge,” said TARC Executive Director J. Barry Barker. “We’re encouraging the public to go downtown and let us take them there.”

TARC’s buses will leave PARC’s Brown Hotel garage on Third at Broadway every 15 minutes on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will run every 10 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until 6:10 p.m. on Saturday and 5:10 p.m. on Sunday.
The buses will deliver passengers to Second and Hill for a short walk to the St. James Court Art Show. The cost is $6 per carload, which covers parking and the bus service. Before boarding the bus, patrons will be issued a pass that will guarantee them return service to the garage - and are urged to hold onto those passes while at the fair.

Art show patrons can also ride the fare-free trolleys downtown.  The Fourth Street Trolley will connect visitors with the First Friday Trolley Hop on Main and Market Streets, Fourth Street Live and other downtown entertainment venues on Friday, Oct. 5.
Passengers may also board buses to and from the art fair at any stop along the route, including an additional stop at 2nd and Breckinridge and another at 2nd and Hill. The fare for passengers boarding along the route is $1.75.

Routes #2, #4 and #27 serve stops near the festival area.
For further information about the St. James bus service, call TARC Customer Service at 585-1234, TTY 213-3240, or visit TARC’s website at www.ridetarc.org.

Crime Prevention Strategies

We need your help. In the past, police officers responded to crimes after they had already been committed. Now we want your help in preventing crimes before they occur. We need everyone in our community to take an active role in learning how to stop a crime before it happens. One way you can take an active role in solving and preventing crime is by using the Metro Police’s tip line, 574-LMPD.

Preventing Thefts from Vehicles

The Louisville Metro Police Department is experiencing a larger than normal number of car break-ins that are unlocked and subsequent thefts from vehicles. This is an issue that plagues our community with all too much frequency. There are several steps you can take to prevent your vehicle from becoming a target of this type of crime. Always remove valuables from your vehicle or lock them in your trunk. Valuables include items like golf clubs, computers, purses, wallets, GPS, MP3 players, cell phones and anything else of value that a criminal might be tempted to smash your window out and then reach inside and take. Always park your vehicle in well lit areas or leave your outside lights on to fully illuminate your vehicle at night. Finally, always remember to remove your keys from the ignition of your car and lock your car doors. Please follow these steps and help LMPD stop crime and remember to call 574-LMPD (5673) to report a crime tip or suspicious activity.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK YOUR VEHICLE AND CONCEAL PERSONAL ITEMS!
