   You likely saw in the news that our area has lost a child in a tragic shooting. We mourn with his family, classmates, friends, and all those who cared for him. Cristian Oliva Calderón, 11, passed away on September 22, 2026.
Born on November 14, 2014, Cristian was a loving son, brother, cousin, and friend. He brought joy to those around him and especially loved spending time with his family. Cristian enjoyed playing soccer and football, being outside with his siblings, and playing video games with his brother.
He will be remembered for his loving heart, his beautiful spirit, and the many special moments he shared with those he loved. Cristian's memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Luis Alberto Oliva Valencia and Maria Calderón; siblings Perla Calderón , Noemí Calderón, Alex Oliva Calderón, and Emanuel Calderón; and Ingrid Villegas, along with his extended family and many loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 2–8 p.m. at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2040 Buechel Bank Road, Louisville, KY 40218, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40205.

Cristian nació el 14 de noviembre de 2014. Fue un hijo, hermano, primo y amigo muy querido, y llevó mucha alegría a la vida de quienes tuvieron la dicha de conocerlo. Disfrutaba mucho pasar tiempo con su familia, jugar fútbol y fútbol americano, salir a jugar con sus hermanos y compartir momentos jugando videojuegos con su hermano.
Cristian será recordado por su gran corazón, su hermoso espíritu y por todos los momentos especiales que compartió con las personas que amaba. Aunque su vida fue demasiado corta, el amor y los recuerdos que dejó permanecerán para siempre en el corazón de su familia y amigos.

Wayne and Brenda have owned Dairy Del for close to 15 years and brought it back to its former glory. They both come from the restaurant industry and are committed to second-chance hiring and giving back to the community. When they're not slinging soft serve, they live next to beloved Joe Creason Park.

Ayla (pronounced EYE la) comes from the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute and will celebrate her second birthday on Dec. 28. Her name is Turkish for “halo of light around the moon.”

The Louisville Metro Office of Planning recently announced the launch of a comprehensive update to modernize the Land Development Code (LDC). The LDC is the set of regulations designed to ensure future growth and development in Jefferson County and is consistent with the goals, objectives, and policies of Plan 2040.
