   Dear neighbors,
The word of the week is congestion. From cross country meets at the park to car rider lines, we hear you, and we are working with the Department of Transportation, JCPS Traffic Control, Parks & Rec and more to seek relief. Our District 10 Legislative Assistant Justin is visiting and driving these lines himself to get a feel for what's abnormal and what is unfortunately heavy but normal congestion.
I am sorry anyone is stuck in traffic or trapped in their driveway. The bad news is that this is not isolated to a single street or a single school or a single district. We are receiving multiple complaints about every single one of our JCPS elementary schools. There are larger, structural issues we can't fix right away, like reductions in public transit and reductions in public school busing. There are issues that the principals are working hard to address, like notifying families to be considerate of neighbors and to not line up so dang early for car rider line.
If drivers in your neighborhood are breaking traffic laws while picking kids up from school, call the LMPD non-emergency line at 502-574-2111.
We are hopeful that families will get the hang of new procedures and these lines will become more efficient.

LIGHTS UNDER LOUISVILLE INFORMATION!
Since last year, our office has been working to improve traffic and other/all things surrounding Lights Under Louisville.
Last December 23, while on a family vacation, I called LMPD 6th Division Major, Mindy Vance, who was also on vacation with her family, to discuss the unacceptable traffic conditions. This year must go better.
My office has stayed in close communication with the Mega Cavern team, pushing for improvements. I convened a meeting in May where I brought in a thick folder of printed out neighbor complaints from 2025, along with the entire 6th Division leadership team that approves traffic plans.
I urged the Mega Cavern to adopt ideas neighbors have proposed, including capping tickets, shuttling attendees, and giving neighbors a lump sum payment. I did not and will not get everything I ask for, but we are making progress. The police also shared with the Mega Cavern owner and staff that they received more calls to the area in late 2025 than they did in 2024.
I believe we are all committed to working in good faith to make meaningful changes to the traffic and communication process this year. We continue to elevate neighbor voice and work to secure opportunities for neighbors to provide feedback. This year there will be more traffic officers, car flags for neighbors, and a hotline that goes directly to the off-duty traffic contractor.

This year, 9/11 Day is partnering with AmeriCorps to hold a large service project in every state as part of the nationwide commemoration. Kentucky’s project will take place at Churchill Downs Racetrack on September 11, where volunteers will work together to pack more than 176,000 meals for Dare to Care Food Bank.
The main event will take place from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM Those who would like to assist with setup are welcome to arrive as early as 7:30 AM., although joining us by 9 a.m. for the main event is greatly appreciated.
There are two ways to get involved:

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, Solid Waste Management Services, and the Waste Management District will be hosting a Waste Tire Collection Event in Louisville on October 1-3 from 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Any Kentucky resident or business may participate, with the exception of tire retailers, scrap/salvage yards, and recycling facilities.
Listen Learn Act is gearing up for the next 28-day Anti-Racism Challenge (ARC) that begins October 2. You may have participated in health or exercise challenges before and know that the point of committing to these challenges is to change our habits.
For example, in a health challenge, we make goals to exercise each day, get enough sleep, eat healthy food; the hope is that when the challenge is over, these things will become the new normal. That's what we want the ARC to do -- raise awareness, invoke commitment, and make being an anti-racist the new normal in our everyday lives. To learn more and sign up, click here.
Angel Walk is a Louisville community event hosted by First Hour Grief Recovery, bringing families and loved ones together to honor and remember babies who have passed due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. Calling all youths and artists, Brightside is looking for positive messaging that promotes community pride and discourages littering. Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) is conducting mosquito fogging in neighborhoods where mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus have been found. Fogging helps reduce mosquitoes and lower the risk of illness. Fogging takes place during the early morning or evening hours when mosquitoes are most active and bees and other pollinators are inactive.
When a fogging truck is in your area:
- Keep children away from the fogging truck.
- Go inside and remain indoors while the fogging vehicle is in the neighborhood.
- Bring pets inside.
- Close windows and doors.
- Keep air conditioning running if you use it.
- Don’t tailgate or follow the fogging truck while fogging is in progress.

Now that summer and the scorching heat it brings is in full swing, we find ourselves heading indoors where the air conditioner provides a welcoming cool comfort. It is invisible – you cannot see, taste or smell it. Radon can be found in every state.
Radon is a serious health risk. It is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. The only way to know the radon level in your home is to test. Find where you can get a radon test kit.
