Algonquin Parkway Safety Improvement Project
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has begun roadway improvements along Algonquin Parkway between 40th Street and Winkler Avenue as part of a Highway Safety Improvement Project.
Project Improvements Include:
- Road resurfacing and paving
- New pavement markings and signage
- Traffic signal upgrades
- Construction of ADA-accessible sidewalk ramps
- Median improvements
- Safety improvements at intersections
- Conversion from four travel lanes to two travel lanes with a center two-way left-turn lane
Why KYTC Is Making Changes
According to KYTC, the project is intended to:
- Improve traffic safety
- Reduce crashes
- Improve traffic operations
- Enhance pedestrian accessibility
- Support Louisville's Vision Zero safety goals

District 1 continues benefiting from investments in public safety and neighborhood infrastructure.
Current Priorities:
✅ Additional streetlight installations to improve visibility and neighborhood safety.
✅ Ongoing coordination with Public Works on streets, sidewalks, drainage concerns, and constituent service requests.
✅ Review of traffic safety concerns and neighborhood transportation issues.
✅ Neighborhood roadway and pedestrian safety improvements.
Residents are encouraged to contact the District 1 office regarding infrastructure concerns requiring attention.

The Algonquin Music Festival returns as one of District 1's signature community celebrations.

The festival continues to showcase the rich history, talent, and community pride that make District 1 unique.
Louisville Metro’s Small Developer Loan Program (SDLP) provides partially forgivable loans to emerging local developers for the rehabilitation of vacant structures into affordable housing. Projects may support homeownership or rental housing but must meet affordability requirements for households earning 80% or less of the area median income (AMI).
The program aims to expand access to lending capital for new developers, improve neighborhood housing conditions, and increase Louisville’s supply of affordable housing.
The Office of Housing & Community Development will host an in-person informational session for the next round of SDLP funding.

The eligibility application will open on August 26. Interested developers must first submit materials to become certified as an Approved Small Developer. Once approved, developers may submit a specific project for funding consideration.
