Introducing The Air News
Welcome to the APCD monthly email newsletter, The Air News. Each month we will highlight a program or project of the District as well as upcoming meeting dates and times and our current public notices.
The West End Women’s Collaborative has been awarded the 2026 Lawn Care for Cleaner Air community equipment grant.
This grant aims to expand and encourage the usage of electric-powered lawn equipment. The West End Women’s Collaborative was awarded a package of professional-powered, electric lawn equipment. That includes an electric mower, trimmer, blower and an extra rechargeable battery that powers all three tools. The 2027 grant application will be available at the end of the year.
Our lawn care rebate program is available year-round. If you return your gas-powered lawn equipment and switch to electric-powered, you can get a rebate of up to $100 on a new mower. Learn more by visiting our website.

Event Season at APCD
APCD staff representing at Alberta O. Jones Park Day
The APCD outreach team have been busy participating in community events these past few months. From going to Old Louisville Springfest, to promoting our air quality initiatives at Alberta O. Jones Park Day, our staff has been working hard to educate the community about the work of the District and steps that we all can take to improve our air quality.
Our Kentuckiana Air Education (KAIRE) program educates and promotes voluntary ways for people to help reduce air pollution, like reducing idling and switching from gas-powered to electric-powered lawn equipment.
Our Community Outreach Coordinator Dee Lynch is out in the community for much of the year, promoting our KAIRE initiative. Learn more on KAIRE's website and book the KAIRE program for your events.

Celebrating APCD Retirements
APCD is celebrating the retirements of Director Rachael Hamilton and Regina Freeman. Rachael, pictured here with Kentucky Division for Air Quality Director Michael Kennedy and Rick Shewekah, Assistant Director, dedicated her time and effort to the community for 16 years, working diligently to improve the air quality for our area.
Regina worked for 37 years here at APCD as a compliance officer, specializing in asbestos. We appreciate her years of dedication to the community.
We are going to miss them both but are excited for their next chapter!
