In the past week, we did not receive effective and timely communication that the weather apparently impeded the timing of progress at Old Bardstown Road and Fairmount Road.
Late Friday, we received the following from the project manager:
This week MAC laid up to the Fairmount Road crossing and concrete capped Old Bardstown Road.
Starting Monday morning, MAC will switch traffic control from the Old Bardstown Road closure to the East Fairmount Road closure. Fairmount Road will be a hard closure until Friday June 5th. Old Bardstown Road from West Fairmount to East Fairmount will have 1 lane closed during the day. At the end of the work day next week, MAC will place cold patch and open the lane on Old Bardstown Road each night.
After this work is completed next week, the work south of Fairmount Road will require 1 lane to be closed with Flaggers intermittently to allow truck to enter/exit our work area safely. This traffic pattern will stay in place for approximately for 1 month until we make the turn and start laying towards the bore.
Similarly, late Friday afternoon, MSD summarized this statement as follows:
Starting Monday morning, Mac will switch traffic control from the old Bardstown Rd closure to the East Fairmount Rd closure. Fairmount Rd will be a hard closure until Friday June 5th. Old Bardstown Rd. from West Fairmount to East Fairmount will have one lane closed during the day. At the end of each workday next week, Mac will open both lanes on Old Bardstown Rd each night. After this work is completed next week, the work south of Fairmount Rd. will require one lane of Old Bardstown Road to be closed with flaggers intermittently to allow trucks to enter/exit the work area safely. This traffic pattern will stay in place for approximately one month.

We expect that these new communications will remain accurate. It seems the weather will cooperate during the week of June 1st, enabling completion of the Fairmount Road hard closure phase by June 5th, as indicated above.
Drivers can expect work to begin around 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 31 in advance of the planned temporary closure of a five-mile section of I-65 as part of the I-65 Central Corridor project. Contract crews will complete final striping and staging before the closure begins around 12:01 a.m. on Monday, June 1.
A detour video is being posted to the project website and social media channels. |
