Pickleball Courts Under Construction at Highview Park

Metro Parks has begun construction on four new pickleball courts at Highview Park. This $200,000 improvement project is underway now, with completion expected this summer.

May 12 - KYTC I-65 Closure Public Meetings

I65 Corridor Meeting

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has announced a public meeting to make sure that people have the information they need to prepare for the upcoming two-month closure of Interstate 65 in Louisville.

Meeing starts at 5:30pm and end at 7:00pm with a presentation at 6:00pm. 
The meeting will include information on why the closure is needed, what to expect, how to prepare, and how to best get around during the temporary closure. The meeting is an open house format and will offer the opportunity for one-on-one conversations with members of the Project Team.

To park at Spalding University, enter from S. Second Street and enter through the main entrance at College Center.

Project Overview
Five miles of I-65 are scheduled to close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) by 12:01 a.m. on Monday, June 1. I-65 is expected to reopen to two lanes of traffic on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Forest Fest is a celebration of music and local makers at Jefferson Memorial Forest.

This year's headliners will be: Amelia Day, Denitia, The Tillers, Roadie, and Fresh Cut Grass. 

Entry is $15 per car and all ages are welcome.
Coolers/Outside Alcohol is prohibited.

May 16 - Fern Creek Highview United Ministries Trivia Night Fundraiser

Whether you can join us in person at the Trivia Night Fundraiser and Silent Auction or not, you may still support our mission by purchasing Raffle tickets for our Basket Bonanza. This Trivia Fundraiser event on May 16, 2026, is our largest fundraiser for the year.

 This event supports our assistance to those in the community who need help paying their Louisville Water Company and LG & E bills. We also help with rental assistance to those who are in need. Our Food Pantry helps feed individuals and families, and we also care for seniors in our Adult Day Health Center. Without folks like you in our community who contribute to our daily needs, we could not continue our mission without your generous donations.

May 16 - Pop Up Drop Off at Shawnee Park

Louisville Metro Solid Waste Management will be hosting various free recycling and large item disposal events throughout 2026. All events are from 10:00am to 2:00pm on select Saturdays:

2026 Pop-Up Drop-Off Schedule: 

  • May 16: Shawnee Park, 4501 W Broadway
  • June 13: Doss High School (tentative), 7601 St. Andrews Church Rd.
  • July 18: Metro Fleet Services, 3515 Newburg Rd
  • August 15: Fern Creek Elementary/High School, 8815 Ferndale Rd
  • September 19: Sun Valley Park/Ashby Lane Baptist, 10401 Lower River Rd/6617 Ashby Ln
  • October 17: Metro Fleet Services, 3515 Newburg Rd
  • November 21: UofL Shelby Campus, 440 N Whittington Pkwy

Residents can drop off a variety of items, including large household items, up to three electronic devices, scrap metal, bundled yard waste, up to four tires, and household recyclables. Additional services include prescription medication collection by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, on-site document shredding by a vendor, and gently used shoe donations to WaterStep.

New this year, residents can also bring gently used textiles and household items, which will be donated to Goodwill Kentucky.

Residents are encouraged to review accepted and non-accepted items before attending and take advantage of this free service.

2026 FridayFest at Highview Park

2026 FridayFest

The FridayFest concert series will return for its fourteenth year this summer at Highview Park. This is a series of six concerts offering a variety of music on Fridays, as well as various food vendors and children’s activities. 

All shows are free and run from 6pm-10pm at Highview Park, 7201 Outer Loop. Make plans now to attend this year’s shows.  Dates and performers for each night are as follows:

Cooper is the kind of adventure buddy who’s always ready to hop in the car. He rides like a pro and is happiest when he knows he’s headed somewhere fun.

You got to see these ears in person, but the pics are pretty darn cute!!" Volunteer Colleen raves about available COOPER out on his first field trip with her.
