   Dear neighbors,
It's budget season at City Hall. Last month, Mayor Greenberg presented his budget proposal. Now, Metro Council has two months to hear from various departments and solicit input from the community to determine what changes to make to that proposed budget.
Where do you want your tax dollars to go? Which departments deserve more? Which departments deserve less? Which projects have proven their value? Which projects have not produced the results that we hoped?
With any $1.2 billion budget, there will be things you like and things you don't. Most of it is allocated to the wide range of necessary city services, from firefighters to police to animal services to parks to public works. Mayor Greenberg has put additional money into some things I care deeply about, such as early childhood education, permanent supportive housing to reduce homelessness, and deferred maintenance in parks.
Changes made will be largely at the margins. One adjustment I'd like to see, for example, is a few hundred thousand more in funding for Jefferson County Extension, whose headquarters is in District 10 but does work in every single council district. It did not receive enough money in the proposed budget to keep its doors open. Many community members are advocating for it and for the similarly positioned Soil & Water Conservation District.
Other requests I have made for District 10 and will be fighting to get included in the final draft: approximately $250,000 to rework "the slab" at Joe Creason Park. (Join us at SlabFest on June 6 to provide your input or watch for an online survey.) I've also asked for more money for park and community center programming, more money to improve sidewalks, and a promising $1 million corridor revitalization fund could benefit our Central Louisville areas of Preston Highway and Bardstown Road outside the Watterson.
You can watch recordings of the budget hearings online and I encourage everyone to complete this budget comment form, which gets sorted by district so that each councilmember knows what their constituents really care about.
Thank you,
I enjoy being outside and doing a lot of fun activities throughout the district. Some things I've been able to do include:
A ribbon cutting last week at The Train Depot for their farmers market. Make sure to check them out this spring/summer!
I was able to spend the day with the 7th grade class from St. Martha for a successful cemetery clean up last week.
I spent Saturday evening at Klondike Park watching the fabulous production of The Tempest by Kentucky Shakespeare. My office was proud to have helped sponsor the event.
Our next Cool Constituent to highlight is Dr. Janelle Rae!
Janelle has lived in District 10 for 11 years. She serves as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Spalding University School of Social Work. Her favorite part of the district is everything being accessible. She also loves her neighbors and the beauty of Audubon Park. She wishes Metro Council would do more to address the housing crisis in Louisville, and that everyone deserves safe and stable housing. She believes when we invest in each other, we all have the opportunity to thrive. I couldn't agree more.
Airport Alliance Meeting Alert
On May 16 at Audubon Park City Hall at 10:00 AM, the Airport Alliance is having their next meeting. The meeting will consist of updates regarding the Noise Compatibility Program, the next forum set for August, and more.

Louisville Parks and Recreation possesses high-visibility sites that are perfect for advertising your business, or organization. The department is now making space available at our four outdoor swimming pools (one being Camp Taylor Water Park in D10). Weighing 190 lbs. and measuring 74 inches tall, the calf was up and walking within moments.
