6th Division February Officers of the Month - Christopher Harper and Garrett Hudson

Please congratulate Squad 4 Officers Christopher Harper and Garrett Hudson for being selected by the Sixth Division Advisory Board as the Officers of the Month for February. Officers Harper and Hudson responded Code 3 to a reported apartment fire at 4602 Fegenbush Lane, arriving on scene ahead of fire department personnel. As they approached the apartment complex, Officers Hudson and Harper encountered heavy smoke and a maintenance worker who reported that a resident was still trapped inside a unit.  The resident, unaware that the floor above was fully on fire, had barricaded his door with furniture, mistakenly believing the maintenance worker’s urgent alerts and banging on the door were an attempted home burglary. The Officers immediately and safely breached the residence, clarified the emergency and safely evacuated the individual.  Following this rescue, they were assisted by arriving Officers Milliner and Samuels, conducted a systematic sweep of the entire complex.  Their efforts included the successful evacuation of a downstairs resident with a hearing disability who was also unaware of the developing crisis. Through their decisive leadership and disregard for their own safety, the entire building was cleared prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.  Their proactive response ensured that all residents escaped without major injury. Congrats to Officers Harper and Hudson for receiving the OTM award in February and for going above and beyond the call of duty.

6th Division March Officer of the Month - Blake Darland

Please congratulate Squad 3 Officer Blake Darland for being selected by the Sixth Division Advisory Board as the Officer of the Month for March. Officer Darland received the award for several significant arrests made during the month.   On March 4th, Darland proactively observed a masked individual wearing a backpack trespassing in the area of several closed car lots. He believing the subject was about to or had been breaking into vehicles, conducted a field interview on the subject, who provided him with false information. Upon determining the subject's real identity, it was discovered he had several warrants. On March 13th, along with others, Darland was dispatched to the 600 block of Wimbledon Court on a report of a domestic violence incident where the offender was armed with a gun and threatened his girlfriend. Once Darland arrived on scene, he located the suspect who attempted to flee.  Darland also recovered a  gun the suspect tossed during the chase and the suspect was arrested on felony domestic charges related to the incident. Additionally, on March 20th, Darland located a stolen vehicle that had fled from him multiple times across multiple shifts. He eventually located the stolen vehicle at a local gas station where he was able to detain the driver of the vehicle. The subject admitted to Darland he was operating the stolen vehicle and had fled from him on multiple occasions.  The subject was also in possession of a handgun as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The Brass Pack Rock FridayFest at Highview Park - May 22nd

FridayFest  is a series of six concerts offering a variety of music on Fridays, as well as various food vendors and children’s activities. Forest Fest - May 16th

Forest Fest 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th, at Jefferson Memorial Forest  in Fairdale (Louisville), Kentucky. This family-friendly, annual festival celebrates bluegrass and americana music, featuring live music, nature activities, and local vendors. It is $15 per vehicle and the event runs in the from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM.

Shakespeare in the Parks - Highview Park - May 23rd

Kentucky Shakespeare, the Official Shakespeare Festival of the Commonwealth, presents the annual FREE Shakespeare in the Parks tour of THE TEMPEST, touring to a record 46 parks this spring.

Shakespeare’s final play is a testament to the redeeming power of love and forgiveness – featuring fools, spirits, monsters, shipwrecks, and magical spells. This one-act magical comedy is performed with five actors in neighborhood parks across the region this spring.

• These are FREE, Family-friendly performances for the community and do not require reservations or tickets.
• The show is approximately 80 minutes long without an intermission.
• Please bring your own chairs, blankets, or other sitables that are most comfortable for you, for most venues.
• In case of inclement weather, most locations have alternate in-door spaces, still currently being determined below. All location changes will be shared on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
• The artists use a sound system with speakers.

Hear What You Need to Know about I-65 Closure at May 12th Meeting

I-65 is scheduled to close between the Watterson Expressway (I-264) and downtown Louisville (Jefferson Street) on Monday, June 1st and reopen on Saturday, August 1st. Closing I-65 completely for 2 months saves at least a year of restrictions and construction delays. 

To explain and answer questions, TEAM Kentucky has scheduled a meeting. Hear why the closure is needed, what to expect, and how to get around.

Evicting the American Dream - May 14th

Evicting the American Dream amplifies the voices and stories of children and families confronting eviction and homelessness. Through additional interviews with pediatric psychologists, social workers, tenant rights organizations, housing authority officials, and eviction lawyers, this film explores the root causes and systemic issues that perpetuate this epidemic.

Often when we hear the words ‘homelessness’ and ‘eviction’, there is a dominant narrative that says: “There is nothing we can do to prevent this from happening.” This film seeks to reframe, humanize, and transform how the wider public understands eviction and homelessness and the ways in which this is preventable. The 51 minute film will be followed by a panel of local experts with lived experience.  They are:

• George Eklund, Director of Education and Advocacy for the Coalition for the Homeless
• Heather Ford, Family Advocate Intern and Peer Support Specialist at Americana World Community Center
• Clare Wallace, the Executive Director of South Louisville Community Ministries and founder of Stop My Eviction
• Jonet Wright, Peer Support / Housing Specialist for South Louisville Community Ministry.

After 60 days in the shelter, Cooper went on his first field trip! He's the kind of adventure buddy who’s always ready to hop in the car. He rides like a pro and is happiest when he knows he’s headed somewhere fun. Nothing much fazes this guy! He’s also incredibly gentle when taking treats, showing off his sweet and polite side.

Lumos Fiber Begins Construction on Fiber Placement

Lumos Fiber is scheduled to begin construction on a fiber placement project in your area within 4 weeks of this notification email. The work will include installing new ducts through new handholes in the street or public right-of-way. The project will also include pulling fiber along the project route. A Lumos Fiber contractor will perform the construction with the work, being overseen and inspected by a Lumos Fiber Construction Engineer. This project should greatly increase the fiber connectivity in the area.

Here's how the project works and what you can expect:

• Work will generally be between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM but may extend to 7:00 PM, if permits allow.
• The contractor will decide the order of work for each street. You can usually tell when work is to begin on your street by the street markings, flags, and equipment being moved onto your street.
• Construction activities will likely result in some general inconvenience with both traffic and restoration. Following construction, all disturbed grassy areas will be restored, and all disturbed paved areas will be repaved with like material. It is our intent to restore disturbed areas to a condition as good as existed prior to construction
• While working there may be parking restrictions on the street during work hours.

May Artist-in-Residence - Sarah McCartt-Jackson - Poet

Award-winning Kentucky poet, folklorist, and educator Sarah McCartt-Jackson is the author of Stonelight, Calf Canyon, Vein of Stone, and Children Born on the Wrong Side of the River. Her poetry explores the relationships between people, places, and the natural world. She received an Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council and has earned multiple national awards, including the Weatherford Award in Poetry and the Phillip H. McMath Book Award. Sarah has also served as artist-in-residence for Great Smoky Mountains, Acadia, Catoctin Mountain, and Homestead National Parks. Through her teaching in poetry and environmental education, she aims to helps others express their connection to the living world. While in residence, Sarah will turn poetry into an accessible, living practice within the library, and invite visitors to take part in the act of making poetry. Her aim is to show that poetry belongs to everyone and connects us all.
