March 2026 Officer of the Month
Please join me in congratulating Officer Ricky Dunnavan for being selected as the Third Division Officer of the Month for March 2026.
On March 18th, 2026, at 0147 hours, Officer Dunnavan was conducting a routine patrol in the area of the Greenwood boat docks which closes to the public at 2300 hours nightly. Officers observed a black vehicle parked and occupied by a male. While making initial contact with the operator of the vehicle, he began to make furtive movements. Officers ordered the subject out of the vehicle and immediately smelled the odor of marijuana and observed a handgun in the door pocket. Upon further investigation, a search of the subject and his vehicle revealed marijuana packaged for sale and a large sum of cash in the vehicle.
The subject was charged with Trafficking in Marijuana (enhanced-firearm) and Criminal Trespass 3rd. The money was processed for forfeiture due to its amount and proximity to drugs packaged for sale with a handgun, which are all characteristic of drug traffickers. This type of self-initiated activity is commonplace for 3rd Division officers, and this is an excellent example of their work. Officer Dunnavan should be commended for his proactive police work which led to drugs, a gun, and a large sum of cash being taken off the streets of Louisville.
