Sheriff’s Office Warns Public of Phony Driver’s License Scam

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is sounding the alarm on a slick, fast-moving text message scam designed to scare Kentuckians into handing over their personal and financial information. Several individuals—including employees within the Sheriff’s Office—have reported receiving suspicious messages claiming to be from “Kentucky Driver Licensing Regional Offices.” The message warns recipients of supposed “outstanding traffic infractions” and threatens license suspension, fines and even credit consequences if immediate payment is not made through a questionable website link. Let’s be clear: THIS MESSAGE IS A SCAM. The fraudulent text urges users to click a link like this one— https://ky.knvlc.life/pay — and even instructs them to reply “Y” to proceed. These are classic tactics used by scammers to create urgency and panic, hoping victims will act before thinking. What You Need to Know: · The Commonwealth of Kentucky does NOT send text messages demanding payment for traffic violations. · Official government agencies do NOT threaten immediate penalties via unsolicited text messages. · The phone number associated with this message originates outside the United States — a major red flag. What You Should Do: · Do NOT click the link. · Do NOT reply to the message. · Delete the text immediately. · Report the scam to your mobile carrier and  at FTC's fraud reporting website at this link! The bottom line is, If it feels urgent, threatening, and just a little too official-looking — that’s by design. Scammers are getting more sophisticated, but so are we. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office urges the public to stay vigilant and share this warning with family, friends, and co-workers especially those who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams.

Party for the Planet Returns! A Celebration of the Earth at the Zoo

Throughout April, the Zoo will host a series of weekend activities and discounted admission opportunities to celebrate the wonder of our planet and promote the need to protect it. The month culminates on April 26 with the Zoo’s Earth Day Celebration, which features five dollars off general Zoo admission and free parking all day, courtesy of the LG&E and KU Foundation. Community eco-partners will be featured throughout the Zoo from 10 AM – 2 PM, providing guests with valuable information on environmental conservation..

Returning for the third year, the “Kids in Action” program invites families and individuals of all ages to participate in environmentally beneficial projects in their own backyards. Participants are asked to choose an activity aligned with conservation efforts then submit photos and explanations of the project. Submissions will be accepted through April 16 with winners in each category selected through a random drawing. Winners will receive a Zoo prize package and be invited to showcase their projects at the Zoo’s Earth Day Celebration on April 26. Program information is available by clicking here!.

Thanks to LG&E and KU Foundation’s Plant for the Program, guests can pick up an eastern redbud tree seedling on April 11 beginning at 10 AM until supplies last.

Fun Day Mondays - April 13, 20 and 27

Guests can enjoy $8.25 general Zoo admission (parking not included) powered by LG&E and KU Foundation. A $7 parking fee will be added to your order online or charged at the Zoo’s admission windows. Twenty-five cents from every ticket sold supports species survival activities through the Zoo’s conservation work with local, regional, national and global partners. 

Native Plant Sale - Saturday, April 19

Guests can browse a selection of native plants available for purchase just outside of the Zoo’s main entrance from 10 AM - 1 PM or while supplies last. All plants will be $8. General Zoo admission is not required to shop the plant sale. 

Earth Day Celebration and Kids in Action Showcase - Sunday, April 26

Party for the Planet culminates as the Zoo observes Earth Day with $5 off general Zoo admission and free parking all day powered by LG&E and KU Foundation. Community eco-partners and the four Kids in Action project winners will be featured throughout the Zoo from 10 AM - 2 PM.  Admission discount is only available at the Zoo’s ticket window on April 26 and is not available in advance or online. 

The ZooPoopyDoo compost sales will not be available this year.

Iroquois Amphitheater Kicks Off 2026 Season

Metro Louisville kicks off the 2026 season at the Iroquois Amphitheater, bringing another year of live music, movie nights, and community events to one of Louisville’s most beloved outdoor venues.

Last season, Metro announced a new partnership with Danny Wimmer Presents—the producers behind Louisville’s nationally recognized festivals like Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life. The collaboration has helped bring higher-profile acts to the amphitheater while strengthening its reputation as a premier outdoor venue for live music and entertainment.

Low-Cost Rabies, License & Microchip Clinic - April 25th

Metro Animal Services Low-Cost Rabies, License & Microchip Clinic will be sponsored by Metro Council Districts 24, 13 and 25. The Clinic is April 25th, from 10 AM - 1 PM at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 201 Outer Loop. No appointment is necessary and all dogs must be on a leash and all cats in carriers. All patrons must purchase a license for all pets participating.

Registration for Team Kentucky's Safe Teen Driving Challenge is OPEN!

Registration is open for Team Kentucky’s second Safe Teen Driving Challenge, which encourages safe driving behaviors to keep highways safe while also giving teen drivers the chance to earn one of five cash prizes worth a total of $10,000. 

Over the past three years, there have been more than 49,000 crashes involving teen drivers, resulting in over 13,000 injuries and tragically, 197 lost lives. The Safe Teen Driving Challenge, managed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), aims to reduce those numbers by encouraging young drivers to build better habits and stay focused behind the wheel.  

The challenge rewards the top five drivers with cash prizes, sponsored by AAA Blue Grass, AAA East Central and Intoximeters. Winners will be announced in August, and the school of the winning students will also be recognized. Over 800 drivers participated in the challenge in 2025. 

Prizes are as follows, 1st place prize is $3,000, 2nd is $2,500, 3rd is $2,000, 4th is $1,500 and 5th is $1,000.

How to Join the Challenge
This challenge is open to 15-to-19-year-old drivers with a valid permit or driver’s license and a smartphone. Parental consent is required for drivers under 18. To join, teens simply: 

1. Register online at kentuckyhighwaysafety.com/safe-teen-driving-challenge/ between Thursday, March 19, and Thursday, April 16, 2026 (cut-off is 11:59 p.m.). 
2. Download the DriveWell Go™ app, create a new account, and enter the contest token code. 
3. Drive safe, track your performance, and compete for the chance to win a prize.  

Driving performance will be measured from April 17 to July 17, 2026, giving participants plenty of time to compete for the top spots.

Public Meeting on I-65/Gene Snyder Freeway Interchange Planning Study

A transportation planning study now underway in Jefferson County will evaluate potential improvements to the Interstate 65/Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) interchange.

This study includes a full analysis of existing conditions and will evaluate improvement concepts to address congestion, improve traffic flow and enhance the safety of the interchange. Meeting attendees will have the opportunity to share their feedback, as well as review existing traffic, safety, and environmental information related to the planning study. 

The public meeting will be an open-house event with no formal presentation from April 2nd from 5 to 7 PM at the South Central Regional Library at 7300 Jefferson Boulevard, Louisville, 40219. While the meeting is hosted at the library, the meeting is not sponsored or endorsed by the Louisville Free Public Library. An online public survey will also be made available following the public meeting through April 30, 2026: bit.ly/I65I265study. A second public meeting is expected to be held in the Summer of 2026, and the final report is expected to be published by the end of 2026.

All written comments will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an Open Records Request has been received and approved. Pop-Up Drop-Off - April 4th - UofL Shelby Campus

After this weekend’s event, Louisville Metro Public Works is hosting its next Pop-Up Drop-Off event April 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UofL Shelby Campus, 440 N. Whittington Parkway. These events provide Jefferson County residents with a convenient, free way to recycle items and dispose of large household materials. 

Residents can drop off a variety of items, including large household items, up to three electronic devices, scrap metal, bundled yard waste, up to four tires, and household recyclables. Additional services include prescription medication collection by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, on-site document shredding by a vendor, and gently used shoe donations to WaterStep.

New this year, residents can also bring gently used textiles and household items, which will be donated to Goodwill Kentucky.

Pop-Up Drop-Off events are designed to make it easier for residents to responsibly manage waste, reduce landfill use, and keep neighborhoods clean. The program is made possible through a partnership between Louisville Metro Public Works and the Louisville/Jefferson County Waste Management District.

The above reference properties are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. LMCO (150.110) requires a notice of the proposed demolition be sent simultaneously with the notice for the public hearing of the change in zoning request because it requires a public hearing. This dual notice commences the required 30-day hold on the properties. The purpose of the 30-day hold is to provide time for the community to consider the demolition and, if warranted, prepare a petition to review designation of the buildings as a local landmark. This hold will expire after 4/22/2026. April Collider Artist-in-Redsidence - Makara Thach Sernett - Fine Art Painter

Makara is a Cambodian refugee-turned-artist who weaves stories of resilience, hope, and transformation into vibrant, impressionistic paintings. She invites connection, contemplation, and a deeper appreciation for the world's beauty and messes through sharing her own personal experiences. Makara loves acrylic paints for their versatility, and combines traditional and out-of-the-box approaches to mark making with vibrant color palettes. She intends to use her art as a bridge for emotional connection and cultural learning during her workshops, and create a studio environment where patrons feel invited not just to observe, but to reflect and participate. Through open studio conversations, workshops, and demos, Makara will guide visitors in exploring their own stories, using art as a gentle process of release, rest, discovery, and healing.
