Louisville (March 4, 2026) – Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins (D-1), in partnership with the Office of Housing and Community Development, invites community members to attend the second public meeting to discuss the future of a historic firehouse on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Southwick Community Center, located at 3621 Southern Avenue.
The historic firehouse, also known as Ashanti House, is located in the Parkland neighborhood at 1150 South 28th Street. The building originally housed Engine 19, later served as a community center, and was acquired by the Landbank Authority several years ago.
During last year’s budget process, Councilwoman Hawkins secured $1 million to renovate the building into a community center. Bids for the renovation project closed on February 6.
The meeting will solicit interest from nonprofit organizations and gather community feedback on how residents would like to see the renovated space used.
