Public Works Snow Update

snow

"The Snow Team is working on our snow routes to get them clear from white line to white line - including all driving lanes, intersections and turn lanes. Even though these roads are in great shape, there could still be slick spots or areas of refreezing.  The extreme cold has contributed to the continued presence of snow next to roads and on some neighborhood streets.

The Metro Snow Team is also prioritizing some roads that are not part of our 111 routes – those priorities include: access to schools, medical facilities, transportation hubs, major collector streets, and economic centers. Not every street can be plowed or treated.

This year we have had more plows, more salt, and more brine on the roads than ever before. Our Snow Team has been working for approaching 200 hours. We are repairing equipment, refilling our salt supplies and getting back out there.  There is the potential for additional snow tonight that the Snow Team is also getting prepared to address.

Even with all our extra plows, salt, brine, and more mileage treated than ever before, it is unlikely that every street will get cleared. We are going to keep at it and hopefully with the help of full sun the last two days, the smaller side streets that haven't been plowed will be more drivable.

Thank you to the community for the patience and understanding as we work though this together."

-Wes Sydnor

Copper Theft Suspect Captured

Pendleton Rd & Medora Rd Area – Case Update

Back in November, many residents on and around Pendleton Road and Medora Road experienced sudden internet and power outages. What appeared at first to be routine service disruptions turned out to be something far more serious: critical infrastructure wiring was being cut and stolen for scrap. This type of activity is dangerous, highly disruptive, and puts entire neighborhoods at risk, impacting communications, utilities, emergency response, and public safety.

Thanks to the coordinated work of the Mayor’s Critical Infrastructure Task Force, Louisville Metro ABC, LMPD, AT&T, and property owners who shared video and photographs, an arrest has been made connected to multiple wire theft incidents across Louisville, including those in the Pendleton–Medora area. Our office worked directly with the affected property owner to provide documentation and information that helped advance the investigation and assisted partner agencies in identifying the suspect and connecting the incidents.

Delivering on Public Safety

I assisted on prior Legislation Change to help curb illegal copper theft: O-087-25 – Amended LMCO Sections 123.01 through 123.06, and Sections 123.32, 123.35, 123.37, and 123.99, creating a new section of Chapter 123 regarding regulated property and restricted metals

Public safety has always been my top priority. This case underscores why Metro Council strengthened its ordinance last year led by Councilman Kevin Kramer, with Public Safety Chair Councilman Dan Seum, and supported unanimously by our caucus as part of the Safer Louisville Act.

Blevins Gap Road Closure

A portion of Blevins Gap Road near Saw Mill Road will be closed for approximately 10 weeks beginning Jan. 20 to allow for a culvert replacement project. The work is necessary to improve drainage and maintain the safety and integrity of the roadway.

A culvert is a structure — typically a pipe or concrete box — that allows water to flow underneath a road instead of across it. Replacing an aging culvert helps prevent flooding, reduces erosion, and protects the roadway from long-term damage.

While the road will be closed through the work zone, local access will remain available. Drivers will still be able to reach Blevins Gap Road from Dixie Highway on one end and from Stonestreet Road/Caps Lane on the other. However, motorists will not be able to travel the full length of Blevins Gap Road during construction. The work area is located near 4021 Blevins Gap Road.

For drivers needing to travel around the closure, a signed detour route will direct traffic to the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265/Highway 841).

  • Use the Dixie Highway exit to access the west side of Blevins Gap Road, as the closure is located south of the exit.

  • Use the Stonestreet Road/Caps Lane exit to reach the north side of Blevins Gap Road, with the closure also located south of that exit.

See the detour map below for reference. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time while the project is underway.

Reporting Potholes

potholes

Four snow events this season, repeated freezing and thawing, and winter road treatments have taken a toll on Louisville Metro streets. These harsh conditions weaken pavement and lead to potholes.

In 2025 alone, Louisville Metro's Department of Transportation has filled more than 48,860 potholes. Reporting them helps crews respond more quickly, keeping roads safer and smoother for everyone throughout the winter months.

You can report potholes by:
