Inclement Weather Updates!

Weather & Forecast Overview

There is approximately a 75% probability of more than 8 inches of snow and a 35% probability of more than 15 inches. While higher-end totals are less likely, confidence is high that this will be a significant event. Snow is expected to begin early tomorrow and continue through Sunday. Post-storm conditions will be challenging due to sustained freezing temperatures.

Public Works & Transportation

Brining operations have been underway for the last several days. Louisville Metro has contracted already to deploy an additional 10 trucks as necessary. Snow routes were reviewed, and the public will be urged to remove vehicles from designated snow routes to allow for plowing. A state of emergency is expected to be declared this afternoon to increase operational capacity.  Louisville Metro is prepared to partner with KYTC and home rule cities as necessary to respond.

Emergency Services & Shelter

Shelters will be operating under white flag, and Louisville Metro is coordinating with the Red Cross to respond as needed. There is a network of warming centers, including Louisville Free Public Libraries, that will remain open for constituents during the day. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will also remain open.

Partners are reminded to document all emergency-related costs associated with the response.

Services and Public Messaging

If travel is unavoidable, residents should allow extra time and use extreme caution. Please give snowplows and response vehicles ample space while they are operating, and residents should avoid parking on the street to aid in road clearings.

Recycling drop-off locations will also not be serviced this weekend, and residents are asked not to use those sites until service can resume. Any changes to Monday’s waste collection will be announced Sunday afternoon.

A Message from our Public Works and Assets Department!

Please know that our crews are working tirelessly to clear all designated Metro snow routes. Many neighborhood side streets are not Metro snow routes.

You can check the map to see the snow routes that are being treated.  On the map you have the ability to enter an address in the search box and from there you can see if that address is on one the designated snow routes and get updates on the last reported time that a pass was competed at that location.

We are asking that if residents would like to submit routes for consideration on future snow map updates that they call Metro 311 to submit their requests.

Thank you
