The event is in collaboration with Louisville Metro’s annual Light Up Louisville and will transform the Plaza on Fourth, between Jefferson and Market Streets, with a unique outdoor, pop-up shopping and food vendor market in the heart of Louisville. This festive event offers a unique opportunity for the community to shop local, support small businesses, and enjoy the holiday spirit in a vibrant downtown setting.

Wild Holidays in December at The Louisville Zoo

The Louisville Zoo are excited to announce a monthlong celebration in December filled with activities for the whole family. From animal-themed holiday enrichment to visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, there's something to amaze the whole family. 

Event highlights for December

• Beary Happy Holiday (Weekends: Dec. 6 – 7, 13 – 14, 20 – 21) Join animal friends throughout the Zoo as they enjoy special holiday-themed enrichment activities.
• Santa and Mrs. Claus Visit (Dec. 20 – 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) The beloved couple of the season will make a last-minute stop at the Louisville Zoo to meet and take photos with guests. Families can also enjoy sweet treats (additional fee) during this special weekend.
• Holiday Scavenger Hunt (All Month) Guests can embark on a Zoo-wide scavenger hunt for all ages. Scan the QR code at the Zoo entrance to join the adventure and complete challenges for a chance to win Zoo-themed prizes.

Celebrate the magic of the holiday season with Gardens Aglimmer, Louisville’s favorite winter tradition! Now in its sixth year, this enchanting event transforms the Waterfront Botanical Gardens into a dazzling display of festive lights and holiday cheer.

What to Expect at Gardens Aglimmer 2025:

Spectacular Light Displays: Stroll through pathways illuminated with giant glowing flowers, shimmering snowflakes, twinkling archways, and sparkling deer.
Holiday Activities: Write a letter to Santa, create a festive craft, and even meet Santa and Mrs. Claus! They will be present all nights of the event until Christmas. After that, they will return to the North Pole!

Metro Council Holiday Food Drive Ends December 9th

The Louisville Metro Council and District ​24 has teamed up with the Association of Community Ministries to host a Holiday Food Drive collecting essential foods for those most in need this season. All donations will go to the Association of Community Ministries to be divided among the 13 Area Community Ministries.

Request For Proposals - Main Street Underpass Mural

Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) is seeking a mural artist or artist team to design and install a large-scale mural on the south wall of the Main Street underpass in Downtown Louisville. The wall spans roughly 260 feet wide, with heights of 23 feet on the east side and 12 feet on the west side. The creative theme, "Bridging Louisville," envisions weaving together the stories of Downtown’s past and present with those of adjacent neighborhoods—creating a visual bridge that celebrates our shared identity and history. The underpass sits between Hancock and Jackson streets on E. Main Street. The wall is dimensional, with various sections of concrete blocks. The viewer will likely experience the mural up close as they walk on either side of the street. Deadline - December 15, 2025 More Information

Main Library will be Closed for Renovations December 1st.

The Main Library will be temporarily close to the public as work on the more than $8 million renovation project progresses. The Main Library will be closed starting Monday, December 1st, for up to 12 months.

While the Main Library is closed, you can stop by any of our 17 other locations across Jefferson County. If you usually pick up your holds at Main, you’ll need to choose a new pickup spot in your account.

Metro Public Works Leaf Drop-Off Ending Soon

Metro Public Works offers free leaf drop-off on Tuesdays thru Saturdays, until December 6th.

Closed: Sundays & Mondays.  Also Closed: Nov 27-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

✅Accepted: Loose leaves, leaves in paper/compostable bags or reusable containers - Not accepted: Trash, plastic bags, or other yard waste

Reminder: If you bring leaves in a reusable container, please take it back with you.
