The event is in collaboration with Louisville Metro’s annual Light Up Louisville and will transform the Plaza on Fourth, between Jefferson and Market Streets, with a unique outdoor, pop-up shopping and food vendor market in the heart of Louisville. This festive event offers a unique opportunity for the community to shop local, support small businesses, and enjoy the holiday spirit in a vibrant downtown setting.

National Wreaths Across America - Laying Wreaths on Veterans Graves

National Wreaths Across America Day is December 13, 2025 at 12 p.m. (Wreath Placement Immediately Following Ceremony) at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery. We're getting closer to our goal, and we need your help to make sure every veteran's grave at our local cemetery is honored with a wreath.

Every December, National Wreaths Across America Day brings the mission—Remember, Honor, and Teach—to life. Volunteers coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 5,200 locations across all 50 states, at sea, and abroad, honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans. Last year, more than 3 million veteran wreaths were placed nationwide!

At Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, there are 11,400 veterans to honor. The goal is to place 11,400 wreaths this year and the total is at 57% currently. Your support can make all the difference! Each wreath you sponsor get makes it one step closer to honoring every veteran at this location.

We are the Voice, We Will Be Heard - A Disability Memoir - November 23rd

The Independence Seekers project, is a local 501(c)3 organization that strives to support individuals with disabilities to become advocates for themselves and activists in their community. They are hosting an event on 11/23/25 at South Central Library called 'We Are the Voice, We Will be Heard: A Disability Memoir.'

All are invited to come out and hear from people in the community about their experiences with being disabled. This event will have ASL Interpreters.

Metro Council Holiday Food Drive Benefiting Community Ministries

The Louisville Metro Council and District ​24 has teamed up with the Association of Community Ministries to host a Holiday Food Drive collecting essential foods for those most in need this season. All donations will go to the Association of Community Ministries to be divided among the 13 Area Community Ministries.

Metro Council Meeting Summary - November 13th

The Metro Council met Thursday for its only full meeting of the Metro Council in November. During the meeting, members were addressed by citizens on a multitude of topics, honored officers for their work saving a victim of kidnapping, and met Spaulding University’s newly installed President, Dr. Anne Kenworthy.

Meeting Highlights

Increased Support for Retired Police and Firefighters Pension Funds: The Metro Council unanimously supported the passage of ordinances O-271-25 and O-273-25. These two ordinances allocated additional resources to increase and strengthen the pension payments for retirees of the Louisville Police and Fire Departments that pre-dated 1985. This ordinance only affects those who were not included in the state-funded retirement system that began in 1985. These measures ensure that the men and women who dedicated their careers to protecting our community receive the support and recognition they deserve. I was proud to sponsor these retirement initiatives to ensure our retired first responders are treated with dignity and fairness.

Plastic Bag Ban for Groceries (R-131-25): I was able to join my 11 fellow Republican members of the Metro Council as well as two Democrats to defeat a resolution that sought to ban the use of single-use plastic bags at stores within Louisville Metro. The final vote was 8 for the ban, 14 opposed, and 3 members voting present. This ban, while well-intentioned, would have added even more cost to your trips to the grocery and would likely have led to less safe storage of meats as they are transported from the grocery to your refrigerator. We can all do better in terms of reducing the use of single-use plastics, but government creating additional regulations wasn’t deemed the correct path toward this goal.

Reappointment of Ed Harness to the position of Metro Government Inspector General (R-136-25): Louisville Metro Inspector General Ed Harness was reappointed to a second 4-year term following a vote of 14-12 by the Metro Council. I voted against the reappointment of Mr. Harness because I believe that his actions over the past few years have shown a lack of understanding of the job as well as an inattention to details that at times have undermined the work of our first responders. While I disagreed with the reappointment, I strongly believe that the Office of Inspector General and the Louisville Metro Police Department must continue working together to strengthen their relationship in partnership. Building trust and collaboration between these entities is essential to improving accountability and ensuring public safety for our community.

Massage Facility Regulations aimed at Combatting Human Trafficking (O-267-25): More than a year ago, a task force with representatives from federal, state, and local law enforcement, the health department, persons within the industry, as well as groups focused on eliminating human trafficking were involved in the crafting of a comprehensive ordinance that cracks down on persons who enslave others under the guise of a massage facility or spa. After multiple attempts to delay, amend, and weaken the ordinance, I joined the majority of members of the Metro Council in passing this needed piece of legislation. I am proud to have co-sponsored this ordinance, which is specifically targeted toward massage parlor facilities engaged in illicit activities—not licensed massage therapists who operate legitimate businesses. This distinction is critical to ensure that ethical practitioners are not unfairly impacted while we focus enforcement on those exploiting vulnerable individuals.

Next week is a scheduled week off in recognition of the Thanksgiving Holiday. There are two meetings of the full Metro Council remaining in calendar year 2025. Those two meetings are scheduled for Thursday, December 4th, and Tuesday, December 16th.

Main Library will be Closed for Renovations December 1st.

The Main Library will be temporarily close to the public as work on the more than $8 million renovation project progresses. The Main Library will be closed starting Monday, December 1st, for up to 12 months.

While the Main Library is closed, you can stop by any of our 17 other locations across Jefferson County. If you usually pick up your holds at Main, you’ll need to choose a new pickup spot in your account.

Metro Public Works Leaf Drop-Off Ending Soon

Metro Public Works offers free leaf drop-off on Tuesdays thru Saturdays, until December 6th.

Closed: Sundays & Mondays.  Also Closed: Nov 27-29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

✅Accepted: Loose leaves, leaves in paper/compostable bags or reusable containers - Not accepted: Trash, plastic bags, or other yard waste

Reminder: If you bring leaves in a reusable container, please take it back with you.
