Note from Josie

pool grid

At Thanksgiving, we will be six months out from opening of our new pool. It really will be an incredible asset for our city, right here in our neighborhood. Last week it was filled with water as a test - and it passed!

Neighbors have asked great questions about parking, security, and programming. This weekend, we're hosting a community forum to answer these questions.

D10 forum

Join us this Saturday, November 15th from 3:00 - 4:30 PM at Cyril Allgeier Community Center to hear from representatives from Parks and Recreation and the Mayor's Office.

Look forward to seeing you there and then on the waterslide over the summer!

What I've Been Up To

nov grid

Over the weekend, I participated in a ride-along with LMPD officers from the 6th Division. I saw some traffic stops, a domestic violence report, picked up drugs from a bowling alley and learn a lot about problem spots and how officers actively patrol the area. Officers said it was a fairly quiet night, so let's keep it up, D10!

Earlier this week, I convened the Louisville Metro Council Women's Caucus and all eight women members of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council, to share experiences and learn how a non-partisan Council operates. They also got to visit City Hall's clock tower.

"Lights Under Louisville" Info

The above map is what the flow of traffic will look like on peak, congested days of the light show.

The annual light show runs this year from November 14th through January 3rd.

This year, "Lights Under Louisville" will be supported by the LMPD Traffic firm that also handles other major Louisville events: the Kentucky Derby, Yum Center, Louisville City FC, and Racing Louisville FC. As in past years, we are engaged with LMPD and Chief Ron Fey, who has served as head of LMPD’s Traffic Division, to reduce lines and keep them moving.

"Lights Under Louisville" will once again open at 9:00 a.m. to encourage daytime attendance, a strategy that was effective last season. For "Lights Under Louisville" concerns and suggestions, neighbors should call Senior Director of Marketing Lauren Parker at 502-736-9595. She is already working on signage for neighbors' yards.

Thank you for your patience during the holiday season!

We have a new neighbor in D10! Mayor Greenberg and the Louisville Zoo are excited to welcome Chrys, a male maned wolf, to the Zoo family. Chrys joins us from Wichita, Kansas, and will celebrate his 8th birthday on November 27.

The maned wolf is native to South America and can be found throughout Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Uruguay. Though generally solitary, they form semi-monogamous pairs during the breeding season. Maned wolves are omnivores with half of their diet consisting of fruit, supplemented by small mammals, birds and reptiles, insects, nuts, eggs and grass. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species lists the maned wolf as near threatened.

JCPS is partnering with Dare to Care for a district wide food drive during this critical time of the government shut down.

This partnership effort focuses on two categories:

  1. Non-Perishable Food Items: Shelf-stable, high-demand items like canned protein, pasta, cereal, and peanut butter.
  1. Monetary Donations: Monetary donations offer Dare to Care the flexibility to provide and purchase food items in bulk. All monetary donations will be accepted virtually, via this webpage, which will be shared on the school flyers we will display at all schools.

There are also have 35 JCPS schools with a pantry through the School Pantry Program -- the food items they receive will go directly to their pantry. All other schools will have donations picked up by JCPS Operations and delivered to the Dare to Care warehouse.

As the colder months approach, vacant properties in our neighborhoods face a higher risk of crime, fires, break-ins, and other safety hazards. Unsecured buildings can threaten the safety of our entire community. The Department of Codes and Regulations urges residents and property owners to act now so we can protect our community together.

Property owners are required to keep vacant properties clean and secure to prevent emergencies and stay compliant with city codes. Taking proactive steps now helps avoid costly incidents and keeps everyone safer as temperatures drop.

If you have concerns regarding a vacant or abandoned property, or require guidance in securing your own, please contact our office at (502) 574-2508. Your help plays a vital role in maintaining safe and healthy neighborhoods throughout the winter season.

Let's join forces to freeze out fire risk and protect our community––your action matters.

The I-65 Central Corridor Project is a multiyear project by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to replace and rehabilitate interstate bridges in a heavily traveled corridor of Interstate 65, between I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and the Muhammad Ali Boulevard interchange in downtown Louisville. This stretch of I-65 supports some of Kentucky’s largest employers and important destinations, including UPS, Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center, the University of Louisville, and downtown businesses, organizations and healthcare providers.

The I-65 Central Corridor Project is focused on improving safety and preventing unplanned closures while adding decades of life to these structures. At least six bridges in the project area will be replaced or rehabilitated during the next three years.

For more information on the project, please visit  https://i65centralcorridor.com/.
