Due to the forecast of heavy wind and rain, the decision has been made to cancel the Halloween in Highview Park event scheduled for Sunday, October 19th.
Due to the logistics involved, there will be no make-up date.
This is disappointing news for everyone who was looking forward to the event. Over the years, Halloween in Highview Park has become a tradition for many families in the community and we share in the sadness of not being able to gather this year.
Join us on October 18th for Metro-wide Community Clean-Up. Meet at the South Central Regional Library at 7300 Jefferson Boulevard 9 - 11am. Bags and gloves will be provided.

Each October, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) highlights fire prevention at work and at home. This year’s Fire Prevention Week (October 5 – 11, 2025) theme was: “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”
This year, kNOw Waste Louisville and Louisville Fire teamed up to make a video highlighting how easy it is to dispose of batteries and other hazardous materials at the Haz Bin at 7501 Grade Ln.
Here are a few tips from Louisville Fire Department:
Charge any lithium-ion battery device on a hard surface—never on your bed, couch, or under a pillow. And don’t overcharge. Once it’s at 100%, unplug and move on.
Charging something big like an e-bike, scooter, or power tool with a lithium ion battery? Do it outside. Use a flat, dry area away from direct sunlight, anything wet, kids, or tripping hazards. And make sure your bike or device is secure—so it doesn’t fall while charging.
Lithium-Ion Batteries: Buy only listed products, use and charge them safely, dispose of them properly.
Check that your home has working smoke alarms. No smoke alarm and you are a Louisville Resident? Call Metro311! A fire company will install one free of charge.
Make a home escape plan in case of a fire, ensuring you have 2 ways out and a meeting place outside.

Project Stand Down began as a VA initiative to provide essential services to homeless veterans, later expanding to include non-veterans through Project Homeless Connect. The combined effort now provides comprehensive support, helping shorten homelessness by offering health screenings, housing applications, employment opportunities, VA services, food, clothing, and more—all in one place on a single day.
This October, the aim is to return to the pre-COVID scale, serving over 600 people at the Salvation Army on Brook Street. Additionally, it will fund Rx: Housing, a program that removes financial barriers—such as deposits and moving fees—to help transition people quickly from the streets to stable housing.
This event is free and open to anyone experiencing homelessness.
Hedge Oh is our first pet that's a sweet pup who’s been stealing hearts since we first laid eyes on him!
He is happy to go on a walk with you. And happy just to sit right by you and let you pet him. He is a very gentle boy. We love his laid back, mellow demeanor.
Our feline, Toby's your average tuxedo but like 10x cooler. He's laid back but knows when it's time to eat, there ain't no servings for slow pokes! We believe Toby to be around 3yrs old. We know he has lived in a multi-cat household and currently shares a room with 5 cat roommates.
