6th Division September Officer of the Month - Detective Austin Semar

Congratulations to Detective Austin Semar for being selected as the Officer of the Month for September. Detective Semar worked a long term investigation involving several theft from auto cases where multiple trucking companies had reported the Common Powertrain Control (CPC) Modules had been cut from the dashes of multiple semi-trucks. Without these modules, the trucks were rendered inoperable, which cost the trucking companies thousands of dollars in lost revenue in addition to waiting months to receive replacement modules.  Throughout Semar's ongoing investigation he was able to identify 10 separate incidents that occurred within LMPD and surrounding jurisdictions. With the assistance of 7th Division Detective McIntosh, Semar was able to identify a suspect vehicle with a Texas plate and McIntosh was able to subsequently locate the vehicle utilizing an LPR system with the last known location of the vehicle reportedly heading south on  I-65 in Warren County, Kentucky.  Acting up on this information, the detectives contacted Kentucky State Police (KSP) and had them intercede the suspect vehicle before it traveled across state lines. KSP located 29 CPC modules in the vehicle and took 3 suspects into custody. Both detectives traveled to KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to interview the suspects who were from Houston, Texas. Further investigation found the suspects were part of a criminal syndication involving multiple suspects traveling around the country, stealing CPC Modules. These suspects would then return to Texas where the modules were later reprogrammed and sold on the black market. Semar has worked tirelessly with the trucking companies to identify where almost all 29 of the recovered CPC modules were stolen from. His efforts have saved the trucking companies thousands of dollars in lost revenue and has lessened the negative impact incurred to this vital infrastructure. This has required him to write multiple search warrants and work long hours to get these cases resolved. Semar is currently seeking a direct indictment by the Jefferson County Grand Jury for both of the suspects. Semar's collaboration with McIntosh and other law enforcement agencies led to the successful apprehension of these suspects and the prevention of further thefts.  For these reasons, Semar is deserving of the OTM award for September.  Congratulations Detective Semar!

CycLOUvia - October 12th

CycLOUvia is your opportunity to experience Louisville as you never have before, by walking, cycling, skateboarding, or dancing in the street. 30th Annual Garvin Gate Blues Festival - October 10th and 11th

The 30^th Annual Garvin Gate Blues Festival, a celebration of blues and the arts, starts on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th at the corner of Garvin Place and Oak Street in Old Louisville.

The festival is free and open to the public, featuring national and local musical performances, artists, and food and drink vendors. Music on the Main Stage begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

New this year, the festival kicks off with a special Garvin Gate Kick-Off Party on Thursday, October 9th, at Stevie Ray’s Blues Bar, located at 230 East Main Street. This free event begins at 7:30 pm. with Deuce ‘N A Quarter, followed by The Gina & Johnny Band at 9:00 pm.

Coalition for the Homeless Presents Stand Down - October 29th

Project Stand Down began as a VA initiative to provide essential services to homeless veterans, later expanding to include non-veterans through Project Homeless Connect. The combined effort now provides comprehensive support, helping shorten homelessness by offering health screenings, housing applications, employment opportunities, VA services, food, clothing, and more—all in one place on a single day.

This October, the aim is to return to the pre-COVID scale, serving over 600 people at the Salvation Army on Brook Street. Additionally, it will fund Rx: Housing, a program that removes financial barriers—such as deposits and moving fees—to help transition people quickly from the streets to stable housing.

This event is free and open to anyone experiencing homelessness.

“Fitty been hit with a few shells & now he walks with a limp. (He aight)

Many dogs come to the shelter with traumatic pasts that we don't know about. We do know Fitty was shot by his owner, surrendered to us, and is now doing great!

Volunteers LOVE this #gooodboy "One of my favorite dogs I think I've walked since being at LMAS."

Fitty is very affectionate, walks really well on leash, and has positively interacted with other dogs. Come meet Fitty at Animal House! His adoption fee is covered by @BISSELL Pet Foundation until October 15th.

Free Spay and Neuter Clinic - October 26th - Schedule Your Appointment Now!

Councilwoman Ginny Mulvey-Woolridge (R-24) has partnered with Metro Animal Services, other Council Members and EthanAlmighty to host a series of free spay and neuter clinics through December, 2025.

The next clinic is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, from 8 am to noon, and will provide spay and neuter services, microchipping, and vaccinations to fifty pre-registered dogs.

The clinics will be held monthly, on the last Sunday of the month. Local veterinarians will perform the procedures throughout the day. After surgery and wellness updates, the dogs will recover at Metro Animal Services.

Registration for the October clinic is open and available on the EthanAlmighty website.
