The League of Women Voters of Louisville will present a Democracy in Action panel discussion on the Restoration of Voting Rights for Individuals with Felony Convictions on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 6:00pm at the Lang House, located at 115 S. Ewing Ave., Louisville, KY 40206 and online at: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81111428947?pwd=DuJOK0ja3ZnaQgwZjam95vuVCjQnwD.1
The panel discussion features Senator Keturah Herron (D-Louisville); Dr. Margie Charasika, Chair, League of Women Voters of Kentucky Restoration of Voting Rights Committee; and Kim George, Community Organizer, Advocacy Based on Lived Experience (ABLE).
Kentucky is only one of three states that permanently disenfranchises individuals with a felony conviction. The panel of experts will discuss the current efforts to amend Kentucky’s Constitution to restore the voting rights for individuals who have completed their felony sentence. The restoration of voting rights strengthens democracy and improves public safety by affirming formerly incarcerated individuals’ full membership in society.
The League is also collecting diapers sizes 4-6 for the children served by La Casita.
The program is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30. The program runs from 6-7:30. Lang House has accessible parking.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. The League empowers voters and defends democracy through advocacy and education at the local, state and national levels.

Please join us Tuesday, October 21, 7:00 p.m. at United Crescent Hill Ministries building, 150 State St., 40207, as we welcome Cindi Sullivan from TreesLouisville. Cindi will discuss Louisville Metro’s Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP). Urban forests have never been more critical to cities than today, serving as one of the only city infrastructure types that lowers temperatures and home energy costs, reduces air and water pollution, and improves human health in many different ways. The UFMP is a long-term strategic plan for addressing the many challenges facing the community by best utilizing and stewarding the urban forest. Our UFMP was developed from a month’s long process of investigation and community engagement. The end result is 20 distinct Findings, with 10 Strategies and associated Actions to implement the plan. This presentation will cover the process and the findings and strategies with plenty of time for Q&A.
Cindi Sullivan, Executive Director/President of TreesLouisville, brings exceptional creative skills and experience to the organization. Her career spans more than 35 years including horticultural and agronomy research, government services, environmental consulting, media and nonprofit work. While with the City of Louisville's Operation Brightside, she coordinated the community garden program, environmental outreach for the elementary school education program, and initiated the Christmas tree recycling and composting programs. During this time, she was also President and Board member of the American Community Gardening Association. For more than 25 years, Cindi hosted both daily television and radio programs in Louisville focused on horticulture, environmental and lifestyle issues. Cindi is a graduate of the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture where she majored in horticulture. She is an ISA certified arborist, has Tree Risk Assessment Qualifications, and is a Certified Urban Forestry Professional.

Whitehall is pleased to announce that it is launching a new Book Club beginning this fall. Once per season, we will choose a book that is relevant to Whitehall’s past or present, and meet in person to discuss it. Book club meetings will last from 45-60 minutes and will be led by Carrie Vittitoe. The first meeting will take place on Sunday, November 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. We will be discussing A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway. There is no cost to attend but space is limited and reservations are required. Participants can sign up at https://www.historicwhitehall.org/whitehall-book-club.
Carrie Vittitoe is a lifetime Louisvillian, part-time English teacher, freelance writer, and one of the co-hosts of the podcast The Perks of Being a Book Lover. Although she enjoyed reading as a child, it wasn't until age 16 when she got to the orchard scene in Jane Eyre that she truly fell in love with literature (and Edward Rochester).
