Statement from the Minority Caucus

The following is a statement from the twelve Republican Members of the Louisville Metro Council’s Minority Caucus related to multiple posters that have been displayed on the University of Louisville Campus following the assassination of Turning Point USA Founder and CEO Charlie Kirk:

Last week, posters were placed across the University of Louisville depicting Charlie Kirk at the moment he was fatally shot, bearing the message “Debate This.” Days later, additional posters showed Mr. Kirk with devil horns and the words “He Brought This on Himself.” These images and messages are chilling and plainly intended to intimidate students and speakers who hold conservative views.

Such conduct threatens the foundational American principles of free expression and civil discourse. When speech is met with images that appear to condone or celebrate violence, the university must act swiftly and clearly to protect all students and the campus environment. Silence from university leadership in the face of threats and intimidation is unacceptable.

We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, any message that appears to endorse violence as a response to speech. We stand unequivocally with students and speakers of every political viewpoint who seek to participate in lawful, peaceful debate anywhere within our city including our campuses. No student should fear for their safety or feel compelled to silence their views because others threaten or celebrate violence.

Because the University of Louisville administration has yet to publicly denounce these posters and reassure the campus community, the Republican members of the Metro Council are taking the following steps:

• We call on the University of Louisville to issue an immediate statement condemning threats and intimidation, to explain what steps it is taking to investigate and prevent such conduct, and to publicly reaffirm that students and speakers are safe and welcome to participate in civil debate.
• Proposals from the University of Louisville that request city funding or partnership will require the university sponsor to appear before Metro We will seek their public condemnation of these intimidation efforts on the record and we will not allow this matter to fade away.
• We will actively support student organizations targeted by this intimidation. We will make our members available at future College Republican and local Turning Point USA chapter events to show them solidarity and support. We will be there to defend their rights and reassure their members that they are not alone.

To the authors of these posters: your cowardly attempt to intimidate students is beneath the standards of a university community. If you hold your beliefs openly, sign your work and defend them in public debate. We will stand with students on the University of Louisville’s Campus who have been targeted by intimidation. We will not allow threats of violence to become part of campus life, and we will not sit silently as others have chosen to do rather than addressing this safety issue head on.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Month

September is Law Enforcement Appreciation Month. We are grateful for all the men and women in law enforcement who dedicate themselves to protecting and serving our community. Yesterday, we honored the LMPD Officers of the Year during our inaugural special Public Safety program. Next week, we look forward to continuing the celebration by showing appreciation to the Sheriff’s Office and LDMC.

KY 1065 (Outer Loop) Planning Study in Jefferson County 

A transportation planning study now underway in Jefferson County will evaluate potential improvements to KY 1065 (Outer Loop) between Interstate 65 and KY 2052 (Shepherdsville Road). The study, dubbed the Outer Loop Transportation Study, will identify short-term and long-term highway safety and mobility enhancements for the roughly three-mile corridor.

This study includes a full analysis of existing conditions along the corridor that will be used to develop practical solutions and improvement concepts to enhance safety, ease congestion, and improve traffic flow. The study area spans three miles across KY 1065 (Outer Loop) from Minors Lane, over I-65 and through the KY 61 (Preston Highway) intersection to KY 2052 (Shepherdsville Road).

Comments regarding the transportation study will be accepted until Friday, Oct.10, 2025, and may be mailed to the KYTC District 5 Office at 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY, 40242.

The displays and materials from the public meeting are available for review at the KYTC District 5 Office. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Boo at the Zoo Tickets

Did you know? You can respectfully retire your worn American Flag at the Okolona Fire Station (8501 Preston Highway). A collection bin is located out front where you can drop off your flag, and the firefighters will ensure it is retired with honor and respect.

Big changes coming to TARC in August 2026!

Exciting updates are coming to TARC! Starting August 2026, the New TARC Network will bring changes to where buses go and how often they run. High-demand areas will see more frequent service, while some lower-demand areas may have reduced or no service.

Why the Change?

Current funding isn’t enough to maintain the existing service levels. TARC worked with the community during an unprecedented public outreach campaign to design a network that meets Louisville’s needs while staying within budget. 

What Does This Mean for You?

• Most riders will see faster, more reliable service and stops near their current locations.
• Downtown connections will be smoother with a new pulse transfer system.
• Everyone will need to learn the new map and numbering system.

What’s Next?

• August 2026: New network goes live.
• TARC will launch a public education campaign to help you prepare.
