Mitchell Hill Road Closure & Repair Timeline

Mitchell Hill

Overview

Mitchell Hill Road in Fairdale, north of Top Hill Road, was severely damaged during a February flooding event and remains closed for safety reasons. We understand how important this section of road is to the residents who used it for daily travel and how disruptive its closure has been. The Louisville Department of Transportation is committed to restoring it, but this type of repair takes time.

Repair updates

Here's where we are in the process and next steps:

Geotechnical report: A geotechnical report is in progress. Before any design or construction can begin, engineers must study the soil and ground conditions to understand how flooding affected the stability of the roadbed. This step is needed to make the repairs safe and long-lasting.

Design: Once the geotechnical report is complete, the information is used to design a road and drainage system that can withstand future storms. The design must be carefully reviewed and approved.

Construction: After the design is finalized, construction can begin. Given the scale of damage and the need for federal coordination with FEMA, this will be a major project.

Timeline: We are currently working with a contractor and FEMA to move the project forward. Based on the required steps, construction is expected to begin and end mid to late 2026.

We appreciate your patience as we work toward a permanent solution. Our goal is not just to reopen the road, but to make sure it’s stronger and safer for years to come.
