Please join in congratulating Officer Dolores "Dee Dee" Sliter for being selected as the Officer of the Month for July.
Officer Sliter was a veteran officer in the Sixth Division and was just recently promoted to the rank of Sergeant on August 18, 2025. While serving in the Sixth Division, Sliter served as a Police Training Officer (PTO) and was revered as an informal leader amongst her squad and within the division. She always went above and beyond, and took on additional responsibilities and tasks without hesitation.
In order to prepare for her upcoming Sergeant role, Sliter volunteered to transfer to late watch several months ago for the opportunity to serve as an Acting Sergeant on Squad 4 and to help fill in for the other Sergeants when necessary. This additional on the job training certainly prepared her for the transition and and has undoubtedly set her up for success! Officer Sliter's dedication to this profession is evident and her passion to serve the men and women of LMPD and her community is admirable. For these reasons, Officer Sliter was selected as the Officer of the Month for July and finishes out her career as an officer in the Sixth Division on a high note. Congrats Dee Dee!
Louisville’s families, educators, and childcare providers know the challenges of our early learning system all too well: waitlists are long, costs are high, and too many children start kindergarten already behind. In fact, fewer than 40% of Louisville’s children under six are in licensed care, and nearly 3,800 more early educators are needed to meet the city’s demand. Every year, 62% of our kindergartners—more than 4,600 children—enter school unprepared, creating long-term challenges for them, their families, and our community. To change that trajectory, Thrive by 5 Louisville is launching the Quality⁺ Pilot, a two-year initiative designed to support educators, strengthen childcare centers, and ease the burden on families. What the Quality⁺ Pilot Will Do: ● For Educators: Offer scholarships, training support, and career pathways to recruit and retain high-quality early childhood teachers. ● For Providers: Provide improvement grants, emergency funds, small business supports, and bonuses for centers that expand access and improve quality. ● For Families: Deliver scholarships to reduce costs and Family Navigators to help parents find and secure childcare options they can trust. Twenty-six early learning centers across Louisville will be selected as Quality⁺ Centers, serving as demonstration sites for this new model. Success will be measured by improvements in kindergarten readiness, family satisfaction, educator retention, and quality ratings. If you are interested in becoming a pilot center, please contact TB5L at reylene@thriveby5louisville.org. This investment is more than child care—it’s economic infrastructure. By stabilizing the workforce, supporting parents in staying employed, and preparing children to thrive in school, the Quality⁺ Pilot is helping to build a stronger future for our entire city.

A transportation planning study now underway in Jefferson County will evaluate potential improvements to KY 1065 (Outer Loop) between Interstate 65 and KY 2052 (Shepherdsville Road). The study, dubbed the Outer Loop Transportation Study, will identify short-term and long-term highway safety and mobility enhancements for the roughly three-mile corridor.
This study includes a full analysis of existing conditions along the corridor that will be used to develop practical solutions and improvement concepts to enhance safety, ease congestion, and improve traffic flow. The study area spans three miles across KY 1065 (Outer Loop) from Minors Lane, over I-65 and through the KY 61 (Preston Highway) intersection to KY 2052 (Shepherdsville Road).
As the study transitions into the public involvement phase, citizens are invited to attend a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept.10, to gather information on existing conditions and provide feedback. The public meeting will be an open-house event held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the South Central Regional Library, 7300 Jefferson Boulevard, Louisville, KY 40219. (This meeting is not sponsored or endorsed by the Louisville Free Public Library.)
Those who are interested may drop in any time to receive handouts containing information and to provide comments regarding the project. Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the project team will be in attendance to answer questions.
Surveys will be available at the meeting so the public can provide written feedback directly to the project team. The survey will also be available online following the public meeting at: https://transportation.ky.gov/DistrictFive/Pages/KY-1065-(Outer-Loop)-Planning-Study---5-80203.00.aspx. Comments regarding the transportation study will be accepted until Friday, Oct.10, 2025, and may be mailed to the KYTC District 5 Office at 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY, 40242.
