Several improvements, like the explorer dome above, are coming soon to the playground area of Hounz Lane Park.
I'm excited to share that new playground equipment will be coming soon to Hounz Lane Park! These improvements will include an explorer dome (like the one pictured above), a rope bridge and slide structure for younger kids, and updated swings for all ages. Weather permitting, these structures could be in place by the end of the year.
The park also has a one-of-a-kind rock climbing feature, three pickleball courts, a multi-purpose field, a large shelter, and plenty of passive space. It really is a great place to spend time with friends and family. If you haven't visited the park yet, I hope you'll give it a try soon.
Bicycle and pedestrian improvements are coming soon to our area, primarily focused along portions of La Grange Road and New La Grange Road. The project extends as far west as Lyndon Lane and as far east as Lakeland Road. Construction is expected to begin in October. Project highlights include:
- Addition of a right turn lane at Willow Springs Drive off New La Grange Road
- Bike lanes or shared-lane markings along New La Grange Road from Lyndon Lane to Whipps Mill Road
- Permanent closure of Whipps Mill Road west of Hurstbourne Parkway creating a cul-de-sac
- New sidewalks along the north side of Whipps Mill Road to fill in gaps, plus a bicycle/pedestrian connection to Hounz Lane
- A shared-use path along the north side of La Grange Road between Whipps Mill Road and Lakeland Road
- Shoulder widening along the north side of La Grange Road (KY 146) from Whipps Mill Road to Granite Drive and along both sides of KY 146 from the Hurstbourne Parkway ramp to Old Whipps Mill Road

Louisville Parks and Recreation is inviting the public to help shape the future of Jefferson Memorial Forest through participation in a short survey. Soliciting feedback from the community is the first step in creating a new master plan that will guide how the forest is preserved, improved, and used for years to come. More information on this project can be found here.
