Updated OADC Resource Guide Now Available  

The Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens is pleased to announce the newest edition of the OADC Resource Guide.  The updated resources guide will connect aging and disabled citizens, along with their caregivers, to a variety of service providers, government agencies and non-profit organizations in the city of Louisville.

LIHEAP Summer Subsidy Now Open

LIHEAP

LIHEAP Summer Cooling is for all eligible households for home cooling costs.  Subsidy benefits can be applied as a credit on your utility account. The one-time benefit amount is determined by your housing category, fuel type, and income level. 

Who is Eligible?

  • Jefferson County Residents who are within 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Applicants must be responsible for home energy utility costs or pay energy costs if utilities are included as an undesignated portion of rent

My ALZ Journey

Free Tool for Early-Stage Alzheimer's and related dementia patients and their care partners

The Alzheimer’s Association is excited to introduce My ALZ Journey, an innovative and accessible free tool designed for newly diagnosed, early-stage individuals and their care partners to help navigate their journey with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Developed for those who enjoy using apps in their daily life, My ALZ Journey provides personalized guidance, education, planning tools, interactive activities and local community resources. By delivering the right information at the right time, My ALZ Journey fosters connection, combats stigma and empowers individuals and their care partners to take action with confidence.

What You Can Expect

  • Made just for you – Personalized content based on who you are (individual or care partner), your location and age at diagnosis.
  • Step-by-step help – Guidance for adjusting to the diagnosis, staying independent and planning for the future.

  • Local support – Connections to your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter and nearby programs.

  • Tools and activities – Planning tools, helpful checklists and creative ways to stay engaged.
  • Based on true stories – Developed with input from individuals living with dementia and their care partners to reflect real life, not just research.

Gold Standard of Optimal Aging Award Sponsors

SWCM

Southwest Community Ministries is one of the 13 Community Ministries that make up the Association of Community Ministries.  Together we serve all of those living in Jefferson County.  SWCM has served those living in 40258, 40272 and the Jefferson County portion of 40177 for the last 40 years.  Our mission is to unite community partners to fulfill the needs of our neighbors in crisis.  We do this through our Food Pantry serving an average of 720 individuals each month, our Meals on Wheels program delivering an average of 1,569 nutritious meals to homebound seniors each and every month.  We also fulfill this mission with our seasonal children's programming assisting with backpacks, supplies and making sure that the magic of Christmas is kept alive.  In the worlds of Alfa "Children do not deserve to carry the burdens of their parents.  This life is heavy enough." these programs impact an average of 215 kiddos each year.  Additionally our mission is fulfilled with our emergency financial assistance program where we work with LG&E, the Louisville Water company, Metro Louisville and various other partners to help provide utility and rental assistance to those living in our service area. 

A term shall be two years.  No board member shall serve more than three consecutive terms and shall not be eligible for election again until such person has been off the board for two successive years.

This session will provide the participant a general understanding of the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), with an emphasis on the young-onset and atypical caregiver experience.
