Dear neighbors,

In my first six months on the job, a lot of my time has been spent in the central part of our district, supporting our neighbors as they pushed back again a massive proposed tennis and pickleball development in Joe Creason Park and relentlessly advocating for improvements to nearby Camp Taylor Memorial Park, so that park amenities match the quality of the pool that will open next summer.

I'm excited to announce that in the annual city budget Metro Council passed last month, we were able to secure funds for parts of our district where neighbors have felt overlooked in the past. We secured $50,000 for right-of-way improvements to the Petersburg neighborhood and a six-figure appropriation for a new playground and improvements to Klondike Park.

Legislative assistant Geoff Wohl and I have already been out walking the Petersburg Estates neighborhood with community leaders, documenting the many tripping hazards on sidewalks, overgrown trees, and streetlights that need to be converted to LEDs. I'm also working closely with Principal Boyer at Klondike Elementary as well as the Parks Department and other stakeholders on overdue improvements in Klondike.

Every neighborhood in our district deserves high-quality amenities and great service, and we'll keep pushing for that. We're always glad to hear from you, and hope to see you this evening at our last Camp Taylor Community Night of the summer.

Councilwoman Josie Raymond invites families and residents of District 10 to the final Camp Taylor Community Night tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. in Camp Taylor Memorial Park, 4201 Lee Avenue.

The July 24 event will feature a free soccer clinic with LouCity & Racing Foundation, Louisville Nature Center critters, Parks & Recreation yoga class, and free Amiracle Aid Lemonade for the first 125 attendees. All District 10 residents are welcome and encouraged to attend this free event.

“This summer at Camp Taylor Park has been wonderful, with new programs for everyone to enjoy,” said Councilwoman Raymond. “Thanks to all who have joined me and my team. Next year will be even cooler when we celebrate the re-opening of the new pool.”

July 31 - Expungement Program intake clinic

The Friends of the Jefferson County Public Law Library are proud to restart their Fresh Start Expungement Program and will be holding an intake clinic at the JCPLL on Thursday, July 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. Those with misdemeanors and class-D felony convictions older than five years are encouraged to attend. The expungement clinic is made possible by Neighborhood Development Funds granted by Louisville Metro Council. These funds will allow for over 100 qualified Jefferson County residents to have their records cleared, free of charge.

Celebrating Our Neighborhood – The History of the Democratic Republic of Congo, July 26, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Louisville is home to more than 53,000 internationally-born residents, representing countries and communities from all over the globe. In the third year of this event series, the Louisville Free Public Library, in partnership with Kentucky Refugee Ministries, will celebrate the Congolese American community.

Dr. Patrick B. Litanga will explore the root causes of the Congolese conflict since the mid-1990s: how local, national, regional, and international actors have utilized historical grievances and how the exploitation of natural resources continues to fuel conflict in the Congo. He will touch on the eastern regions of the Congo and the populations that have borne the brunt of these armed conflicts.

Tom Causey: Sherlock Holmes and The Case of the Missing Jewel, July 29, 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. A 45-minute show combines science, math, magic and comedy to lead the audience on a detective hunt to find out who stole the Royal Jewel from the crown. Magic effects (with lots of audience participation) tell the story which includes a visit to Sherlock’s lab where we learn about the magic of science (science experiments demonstrated and explained in a fun and safe way). Ages 6-12.

Short term rental enforcement continues in large part to be complaint-driven, based on public reporting of alleged violations to administrators. An interactive map tool contains all of the registered short term rentals in Louisville having an active permit to rent their property out to paying customers on STR websites like Airbnb.
