Louisville Metro Police Department 3rd Division Officer of the Month

OOM

On May 26, 2025, 3rd Division officers were dispatched to 9600 Blk of Leopold Wood Loop on several suspects, described by the complainant as juveniles with face masks on, pointing a firearm at another individual.  The complainant also added the details that the suspects were standing around a possible stolen vehicle.

Officer Colton Hensley quickly arrived on scene, showing a strong sense of urgency due to the nature of the run.  Officers immediately observed one suspect standing in the doorway of the vehicle in question, along with several other suspects standing around. Officers gave verbal commands to the suspects, and they immediately began to flee the area on foot. Officers promptly recognized one suspect that was standing in the doorway of the vehicle controlling an item in his waistband as he fled the scene.  Officer Hensley pursued the suspect on foot through the apartment complex. During this lengthy foot pursuit, Officer Hensley recognized the suspect was armed with a handgun. The suspect continued over a fence and laid down in heavy brush.  Officer Hensley quickly located the suspect and took him into custody without further incident.  Officer Hensley also located a firearm that had been discarded nearby as the suspect attempted to move the evidence with his foot.

The diligent patrol work highlighted above aided in the recovery of a stolen firearm in the possession of a juvenile, in addition to a fresh stolen vehicle that was towed to be returned to its rightful owner.
