With this being my first year on Metro Council, I was truly grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Budget Committee. It’s one of the most important responsibilities we have as councilmembers — working together to shape how our city invests in its future and to capture as many of our community’s priorities as possible.
I’m proud to share that there are many positives in this year’s budget, including funding for a much-needed traffic calming project on South Park Road, $500,000 in support for the Bluegrass Center for Autism, and funding for signage and updates along the Preston corridor. These are meaningful investments that will improve safety, support essential services, and enhance quality of life for residents across Louisville.
And that’s just the start. This budget also makes key investments in public safety, infrastructure, parks, and services for families, youth, and seniors. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and our community as we build on this momentum and work toward the continued growth and improvement of our city.

Thursday night at the Metro Council meeting, by a vote of 21-4 The Louisville Metro Council approved the amended FY26 Operations Budget for the Louisville Metro. The Metro Council later voted 20-4, with one abstention, to approve the amended 2025-2026 Capital Budget.
For the first time since the start of merged Government, the Mayor proposed a budget that fully funded the Council’s goals for paving ($30 million) and he sustained our levels of increased support for matters such as increasing the use of technology for policing, right-of-way maintenance, sidewalk repair, park repair and numerous other ways we have placed a focus on in previous years. This decision to listen and work with the Council led us to have a budget that truly represents the needs of all.
The Council’s amendment to the Mayor’s Budget Proposal achieves the following:
- Establishes the funding needed for creating a new First Responders Training Facility for the community.
- Increases the funding for street markings, guard rails and other improvements to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.
- Invests in South End economic development by creating programs to attract new businesses and grow job opportunities.
- Addresses many infrastructure needs in those areas seeing the most growth by funding road enhancements/widening projects.
