Metro Council Budget Summary
By a vote of 21-4 The Louisville Metro Council approved the amended Fiscal Year 25-26 Operations Budget for the Louisville Metro. The Metro Council later voted 20-4 with one abstention to approve the to the amended 2025-2026 Capital Budget.
For the first time since the start of Merged Government, the Mayor proposed a budget that fully funded the Council’s goals for paving ($30 million) and he sustained our levels of increased support for matters such as increasing the use of technology for policing, right-of-way maintenance, sidewalk repair, park repair and numerous other ways we have placed a focus on in previous years. This decision to listen and work with the Council led us to having a budget that truly represents the needs of all..

The Council’s amendment to the Mayor’s Budget Proposal achieves the following:

Public Safety: Amendment increases investment in technology such as flock cameras, traffic feedback signs and sets aside funding for the purchase of property for a future First Responders Training Facility within the County as well as funding to continue work on a new LMPD Headquarters.

Safer Streets: The Metro Council increased the funding for street markings, guard rails, driver feedback signs and 18 traffic calming, road enhancement projects that are planned for all corners of the community including Charleswood Road in District 23.

Infrastructure: The budget continues to fund road repairs with $30 million devoted to repaving along with additional funding being added to address the expanding needs for road enhancements in high growth areas.
District 23 Improvements Include:
- $18.7 million for Cooper Chapel Road Phase 3 (expanding Cooper Chapel Road to Bardstown Rd)
- $1.8 million for a Cedar Creek Rd Connector to Beulah Church Rd and improvements at Cedar Creek Rd and Bardstown Rd intersection.
- $4.6 million to expand the Louisville Loop through McNeely Lake Park by constructing a 2 mile shared use path.

In addition to the budget, I helped develop and sponsor an ordinance to strengthen our smoke shop regulations, which passed the Council last week.
The ordinance closed loopholes that some smoke shops have used to circumvent local rules. Too often, these shops applied as convenience stores or provided false information to avoid zoning laws.
The new rules clearly define what products constitute a smoke shop and require more accurate, detailed floor plans when applying for a tobacco license. This will help us enforce the rules more effectively and revoke licenses when businesses lie or fail to comply with the law. Read the ordinance here.
This ordinance builds on legislation I worked to pass last year, which increased restrictions on where smoke shops can open, limited their hours of operation, clarified what products they can sell, and strengthened reporting requirements.

The Louisville Bats present "Metro Council Community Nights," an opportunity for all constituents of every Metro Council district.

These are geared toward, but not exclusively for, residents who might otherwise not be able to afford to attend a Bats game. The offer is extended to both individuals and mentoring organizations, social service agencies, underprivileged kids’ groups, etc.
The two games this year are scheduled for Tuesday, August 5th and Tuesday, September 16th.
