June has been a very busy month for our office. I have been fortunate to sit on all committee hearings over the past two months and have learned so much about the process along the way. It is critical for our district and the Southend to have a consistent seat at the table. As a whole, this budget is one of the most supportive budgets regarding Southend investment in many years. I look forward to sharing with you the details of the budget that will be impacting our district over the fiscal year to come.
Our office is also preparing for Riverview Independence Fest at Riverview Park next Saturday (July 5). We look forward to seeing you as we celebrate the anniversary of our country’s independence. Come on out and hear live music, enjoy the splash pad, visit local food trucks, and enjoy a fireworks show at dark.
Serving as your Councilman is the honor of my life, and I am grateful to work on behalf of the good people of the Southend. Should you ever need assistance, know that you can always reach out to me and my office.
Yours In Service,
Jonathan
Metro Council FY25 Budget Summary
LOUISVILLE, KY - By a vote of 21-4 The Louisville Metro Council approved the amended FY26 Operations Budget for the Louisville Metro. The Metro Council later voted 20-4 with one abstention to approve the amended 2025-2026 Capital Budget.
For the first time since the start of Merged Government, the Mayor proposed a budget that fully funded the Council’s goals for paving ($30 million) and he sustained our levels of increased support for matters such as increasing the use of technology for policing, right-of-way maintenance, sidewalk repair, park repair and numerous other ways we have placed a focus on in previous years. This decision to listen and work with the Council led us to having a budget that truly represents the needs of all.
“This budget is one of the most supportive budgets in years regarding Southend investments. I am excited to see these projects come to life. We are building momentum for the Southend we want to see, and this budget will push us in the right direction” – Councilman Jonathan Joseph, District 12
The Council’s amendment to the Mayor’s Budget Proposal achieves the following:
- Established the funding needed for creating a new First Responders Training Facility for the community.
- Increased the funding for street markings, guard rails and other improvements to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.
- Invested in South End Economic development by establishing programs to help bring additional dining options as well as other economic development opportunities to areas such as PRP, Valley Station, Fairdale, and Shively.
- Addressed many infrastructure needs in those areas seeing the most growth by funding road enhancements/widening for projects at West Pages Lane, signage on Dixie, and traffic calming on Gabriel Dr and Kerrick Ln..
- Funded improvements such as Valley Sports and Prairie Village, Sylvania Park's restoration, and called for the creation of a new community center in SW Jefferson County along with a new Gymnasium and Pool located at the Sun Valley Community Center.
- $6 million in funding to go towards the purchase and planning of a first responders training facility within Louisville Metro.
