School of Rock Louisville is proud to serve the Louisville community and surrounding areas with a revolutionary education approach. With lessons from our expert instructors, students can learn to rock out on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals across genres. By jamming in a band together with friends while learning to read and play music by ear, students gain the confidence to truly be a rock star. Our students perform at community-based events and regularly play at local venues! 

The event is open to the public, family friendly, and free. Local vendors and food trucks will be on hand with a variety of food options. People are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the show at Highview Park. Sponsored by local councilmembers.

The First Responder Cookoff Event between LMPD’s Sixth Division and J-Town Fire is this Friday, June 27^th from 11am-1pm at the Kroger in McMahan Plaza.  You can purchase a burger, chips, and drink for $6. The department that raises the most wins the cookoff and bragging rights!  All proceeds raised will go to local charities.  We hope you can join us!

Pet of the Week-Kazoo

“Kazoo spent a beautiful day with Volunteer Melissa!

I got to spend a couple of hours with Kazoo yesterday morning. When I picked him up for our outing, he peed right away and then easily jumped into the back of my SUV. He was an excellent passenger. I rolled the windows down a bit so he could catch the breeze. He chose to be extra safe and kept his head inside, but he did seem to enjoy the ride.

When we got to my house, I turned on the splash pad, thinking he'd like to play in the water. I was wrong. . He seemed afraid of the sprinklers, so I turned it off. I thought maybe he would splash in the water that had pooled on the pad, but wrong again. Time for a new activity. Let's try ball.

This boy loves ball! He plays fetch like a champ. I think if he could, he'd play fetch all day. As soon as I would get the ball back, he would get excited, and jumpily demand I throw it again. Even though he was leery of the water, he was a brave boy and retrieved the ball from the depths of the scary splash pad.

Next, we headed to Brown Park for a nice shady walk. He did great on the leash, and ignored the numerous geese we encountered. There weren't a lot of people there, but one lady stopped to talk to him and he sat politely.

We picked up some food from Wendy's on the way back to Animal House. He loved the burgers, nuggets, and fries that we shared. He takes food and treats gently from your hand.

Kazoo is a really good boy!" Thank you Melissa for giving this 75lb boy a great day out!! Now it's your turn to get him out for good- Come Adopt KAZOO!!!  3yrs old, Neutered Male, Microchipped, Dog friendly and ready for his people to come for him!!

Call for Volunteers to Serve on the System Development Charge Oversight Committee

A System Development Charge is a monetary fee imposed by Louisville Metro on development activities as a condition for issuing residential building permits. This charge funds public roadway facilities needed to serve new growth and development and to mitigate the impacts of these activities on Louisville Metro’s transportation infrastructure. It does not include any permit or application fees.

Pursuant to Section 164.20 of the Louisville Metro Code of Ordinances, the System Development Charge Oversight Committee shall be responsible for reviewing the classification of roads as designated or non-designated roads, and the calculation of charges on a bi-annual basis. A “Neighborhood Representative” selected by the Planning Committee of the Louisville Metro Planning Commission shall be one member of the Oversight Committee.

The Planning Committee of the Louisville Metro Planning Commission is accepting self nominations for anyone interested in being considered as the Neighborhood Representative.

Interested parties shall submit 1.) a letter, no more than one page in length, stating why they are interested in being the Planning Committee’s appointee, and 2.) a resume, not exceeding more than two pages. These materials may be submitted to the Louisville Metro Office of Planning in person (Metro Development Center, 444 S. Fifth Street, 3rd Floor, Louisville, KY, 40202) or electronically via email to brian.davis@louisvilleky.gov. The deadline for submittals is Friday, July 11, 2025 at 5:00 pm. Nominations received after the deadline will not be considered.

Accepting Applications for “She Serves” A Leadership Experience for Women - July 24th - September 11th

The Louisville Metro Police Department is launching “She Serves,” a free 7-week leadership and engagement program designed to empower women and strengthen connections between community members and law enforcement. Open to women ages 20 and up, the program invites participants of all backgrounds — no law enforcement experience required — to explore public service, leadership, and the inner workings of LMPD.

Sessions will be held one evening per week from 6–9 PM at the LMPD Training Academy. Space is limited to 35 participants. Apply today and help shape the future — one voice at a time.

New Address for Louisville Metro Housing Authority

The Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) is pleased to announce the completion of its office relocation to our new central office in the 500W Building at 320 South 5th Street, in the heart of downtown Louisville.

As part of this transition, LMHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Department (Section 8) has relocated to the new headquarters and will no longer provide services at the United Building (600 South 7th Street). 

This move reflects LMHA’s continued efforts to modernize operations, improve accessibility, and enhance service delivery for the thousands of residents and partners we serve. Nearly 150 LMHA employees now work downtown, consolidating services into one central and convenient location.  Client services are located on the first floor (entry via South 5th Street), while administrative offices occupy the 6th, 7th, and 8th floors. 

Please note our new official mailing address, effective immediately:  Louisville Metro Housing Authority  320 South 5th Street  Louisville, KY 40202.

Understanding the Lightning Threat - What You Need to Know

Since its launch in 2001, National Lightning Safety Awareness Week has helped reduce lightning-related deaths in the U.S. from about 55 to fewer than 30 annually—thanks to greater public awareness and safety practices.

Key safety reminders:

-Thunderstorms can develop quickly—don’t get caught off guard, especially during outdoor activities like swimming.

-Lightning risk increases as a storm approaches, peaks when overhead, and lingers as it moves away.

-Many injuries occur because people wait too long to seek shelter or return outside too soon.

Swimming pool safety tips:

-Exit the pool immediately at the first sound of thunder or sight of lightning.

-Seek shelter in a fully enclosed building—open structures like porches or pavilions are not safe.

-Indoor pools can also be dangerous during storms due to water’s conductivity and potential indirect strikes.
