Transportation, Budget Update, and New Legislation
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This past week I had the pleasure of meeting the recently hired Director of our new Department of Transportation. As a reminder, the Mayor campaigned on creating this department which would look at more long-term planning for transportation projects so Public Works can focus on the execution of the day-to-day maintenance including road paving. I support this desire to get more strategic in our planning process and look forward to working with Director Bill Bell.
We are neck deep in the final budget negotiations on Council. There is a special meeting of the Budget Committee scheduled for Monday where the Committee will vote on the budget amendments. Afterward, we will have the full vote of Council next Thursday evening. This is the busiest time of year particularly for the budget Chair, Vice-Chair, Council President and the Caucus Chairs. I can assure you that your voice is being heard on this budget and I will work tirelessly to get the best possible budget for the city. It should be fiscally sound, not raise taxes, and focus on infrastructure and safety. The next newsletter will have a summary of what we passed in the budget.
