June 11, 2025
Dear Neighbor,
Your Metro Government is continuing to work through the annual budget process for our City. That involves numerous hearings, discussions, and considerations of various ways we can work together to move our City forward.
Beyond the budget process, I would like to highlight a two upcoming events and happenings in our district.
First, please consider attending the St. Edward Parish Blood Drive on June 12th. This is an opportunity in our neighborhood to give a truly life-saving gift to our community, and perhaps someone we know or love.
Second, if you are interested in serving on the Community Safety Commission, which will work to reduce violent crime and implement the Community Commitment: Louisville's Consent Decree. Applications close June 16th.
Please take note of other upcoming events and happenings in District 26 and around Louisville Metro.
Enjoy the weekend,
Brent T. Ackerson 26th District Councilman

Louisville Grows Neighborhood Tree Champion Program, invites neighborhoods to actively steward their tree canopy. For this program, Louisville Grows will provide between 15 and 30 free trees to participating neighborhoods. In return, we ask each neighborhood to identify a local “Lorax”- someone to serve as a Neighborhood Tree Champion. This individual will take the lead on canvassing neighbors, collecting tree requests, and serving as the primary liaison for the program.
Louisville Grows will support the effort every step of the way. We’ll communicate directly with residents to confirm their tree orders and call 811 to locate underground utilities before planting occurs. We’ll help select the best location for each tree, handle the planting and mulching, and provide a watering apparatus to ensure the trees get a strong start. Tree Champions will also receive a comprehensive manual and all the necessary tools and resources to ensure success.
If you are interested in this program for your neighborhood let us know and we will het you in touch with the liaison.

Travel back in time 65 million years — and still make it home for dinner — when Dinopalooza stomps into the Louisville Zoo on Saturday, May 17. Nineteen animatronic giants from the prehistoric era will bring ferocious fun to families through September 1, 2025.
Miniature dino experts at home will no doubt recognize—and eagerly school anyone around them on — the 65-foot-long Brachiosaurus, the 40-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex, and the 30-foot-long Parasaurolophus. Good luck pronouncing that last one … not to mention Dsungaripterus or Quetzalcoatlus!
Budding paleontologists will have time to master all of the dinosaur names as they explore the interactive dig pit to uncover dino fossils. These Jurassic giants will be spread throughout the Zoo for maximum prehistoric impact.
Dinopalooza is included with Zoo admission and free for Zoo members.

Starting January 1, 2025, all Kentuckians must undergo a vision screening to renew their driver’s license. Multiple states have adopted mandatory vision screenings to ensure drivers have the visual acuity required to operate a vehicle safely.
This new requirement, enacted during the 2021 General Assembly, aims to promote highway safety by ensuring that all drivers maintain good vision throughout their driving career. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is responsible for administering the vision requirement law for drivers seeking to renew their license. Drivers have two options for vision screenings when renewing their license. Click on the link below for additional details. https://drive.ky.gov/Drivers/Documents/KCTC_fact%20sheet_public_.pdf

Our office routinely publishes information on upcoming public meetings and regarding planning and zoning cases in and around District 26. Our posting in this forum is not an official notice. This list may not be comprehensive nor does it include other zoning matters decided upon by zoning authorities other than Louisville Metro Government.
While we intended to expand the scope of our zoning notices, our office reverted to the former policy of relaying the information we receive from Planning and Zoning. We are limited by ordinance and state law to provide the publicly available information.
