PROJECT UPDATE from KYTC - Jefferson County: U.S. 60 Widening from Eastwood Cutoff (KY 2841) to Rockcrest Way - Project 5-8952

PROJECT UPDATE from KYTC - Jefferson County: U.S. 60 Widening from Eastwood Cutoff (KY 2841) to Rockcrest Way - Project 5-8952

A bid opening occurred for this project in January 2025. The contractor should be working on the Multi-Use Path portion of the project (Metro Section) at this time. LG&E will be relocating their facilities in the vicinity of Gilliland at this time and over the summer. Construction of Gilliland will be delayed until the Autumn of 2025 (until after LG&E has completed their work). It is likely the ultimate completion of the project will be delayed until the Spring of 2026 so that the final asphalt surface can be applied under favorable conditions.

We are told by the project manager Carl Jenkins that a traffic signal will not be installed as part of this active project but the intersection of Eastwood Cutoff & Shelbyville Road will be reevaluated 18 months after completion to determine need for the signal. https://transportation.ky.gov/DistrictFive/Pages/U.S.-60-Widening-from-Eastwood-Cutoff-(KY-2841)-to-Rockcrest-Way.aspx

Are you looking to grow the tree canopy in your neighborhood for free?

Louisville Grows Neighborhood Tree Champion Program, invites neighborhoods to actively steward their tree canopy. For this program, Louisville Grows will provide between 15 and 30 free trees to participating neighborhoods. In return, we ask each neighborhood to identify a local “Lorax”- someone to serve as a Neighborhood Tree Champion. This individual will take the lead on canvassing neighbors, collecting tree requests, and serving as the primary liaison for the program.

Louisville Grows will support the effort every step of the way. We’ll communicate directly with residents to confirm their tree orders and call 811 to locate underground utilities before planting occurs. We’ll help select the best location for each tree, handle the planting and mulching, and provide a watering apparatus to ensure the trees get a strong start. Tree Champions will also receive a comprehensive manual and all the necessary tools and resources to ensure success.

If you are interested in this program for your neighborhood let us know and we will het you in touch with the liaison.
