The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to renew an operating permit for Bakelite Synthetics (formaldehyde and phenolic resin manufacturer), 6200 Camp Ground Road, in accordance with Regulation 2.16. The 60-day public comment period starts May 17, 2025, and ends on July 16, 2025.
Drafts of the permit and summary are available on the District website, by emailing our permitting section, calling Matt King at (502) 574-6000, or at the District office 701 West Ormsby Avenue, Suite 303, Louisville, KY 40203, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Copies of the application are available upon request. Written comments will be accepted through the District’s online public comment form until midnight or at the District office until 5:00 p.m. on July 16, 2025.

Will this permit increase pollution? Renewal of this operating permit will not increase pollution.

Does this facility have a history of non-compliance? The last notice of violation was issued in 2019 for unplanned excess emissions. This violation was resolved with Agreed Board Order 19-02, and the source is currently operating in compliance. See the Compliance History table in the Statement of Basis, page 40.
