Southern High School's Food and Supply Drive Supplies Families with Assistance

The District 24 office was honored to be included in the announcement and recognition of Southern High School’s Food and Supply Drive for those in need. This incredible effort will provide much-needed assistance to families in our community through food deliveries and care packages.

We are especially proud of the dedicated teachers and students who have organized this drive and committed to volunteering their time over the summer to ensure no one in our community goes without. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mario Ransan and the entire Southern High School family for recognizing a need and stepping up to meet it. Your compassion and service are what make our community stronger!

First FridayFest - May 23rd - FREE at Highview Park - Caribou and School of Rock St. Matthews

A different concert will be held on select Fridays through August 8th. 7122 Briscoe Ln, Louisville, KY 40228.

The first concert on May 23rd features CARIBOU with School of Rock St. Matthews.  CARIBOU, Louisville's Rock & Roll Band is a seven-piece band featuring a full horn section with trumpet, trombone, and sax. From Motown to Bruno Mars, Caribou's set list pulses with the most popular tunes from the sixties through the present. CARIBOU is fronted by identical twin brothers Bill and John Keeling is celebrating its’ 44th year of performing in the region.

The event is open to the public, family friendly, and free. Local vendors and food trucks will be on hand with a variety of food options, and people are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the show at Highview Park, sponsored by local council members.

Fan Fair Distribution Event - June 7th

For the 10th year in a row, KIPDA Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living, and the Louisville Metro Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens are teaming up to provide fans for older adults and persons with disabilities to help offer relief from the sweltering summer heat.  

Working with community organizations, churches, businesses, private citizens, and the local media, we hope to generate monetary donations to purchase new fans.  Persons or businesses interested in sponsoring fans will be able to make tangible or monetary donations to this effort until May 23rd. 

The Fan Fair Event will be held at the Edison Center, 701 W. Ormsby Ave., Louisville KY 40203, on June 7th, from 9 am - 11 am. In conjunction with the fan distribution, there will be health & resource vendors and a prescription drug toss available for the community.

Dinopalooza Opens at the Louisville Zoo - Starts May 17th

Travel back in time 65 million years — and still make it home for dinner — when Dinopalooza stomps into the Louisville Zoo on Saturday, May 17. Nineteen animatronic giants from the prehistoric era will bring ferocious fun to families through September 1, 2025.

Miniature dino experts at home will no doubt recognize—and eagerly school anyone around them on — the 65-foot-long Brachiosaurus, the 40-foot-long Tyrannosaurus rex, and the 30-foot-long Parasaurolophus. Good luck pronouncing that last one … not to mention Dsungaripterus or Quetzalcoatlus!

Budding paleontologists will have time to master all of the dinosaur names as they explore the interactive dig pit to uncover dino fossils. These Jurassic giants will be spread throughout the Zoo for maximum prehistoric impact.

Dinopalooza is included with Zoo admission and free for Zoo members.

May Collider Artist Norma Drish - Pressed Flower Art and Fiber Arts

Norma Drish is a self-taught artist based in Louisville’s Southend, where she has created art for over 30 years. She is a teaching artist of fiber arts at The Little Loomhouse, as well as a Children’s Fine Arts teacher at LVA. Her work has shown at The Little Loomhouse, the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, Cane Roots Art Gallery in St. Croix, and the Speed Art Museum. Norma creates portraits that capture the lives and cultures of those around her, exploring themes of human connection and identity. Her recent experience as the first plein-air artist-in-residence at The Little Loomhouse sparked a fascination with the delicate balance of nature and led to pressed flower work. She weaves together community engagement and the beauty of nature, creating multimedia pieces that incorporate natural fibers and elements from nature.
