Shelter Renovations

ARP is currently funding several shelter renovations. All of these shelters provide a temporary space for people struggling with homelessness due to factors like substance abuse, unemployment, mental illness, etc. They provide support by helping individuals access essential resources, regain stability, and secure permanent housing. The renovations will enhance accessibility for people with disabilities, introduce much-needed upgrades to client spaces, improve safety, increase energy efficiency, and expand available amenities. These improvements will ensure that the shelters continue to serve and uplift those in need for years to come. Renovations are currently in progress and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Volunteers of America-Unity House (pictured above) 

Unity House provides safety, food, and shelter to people in need. They make client assessments and then offer individualized care plans to help their clients sustain housing, employment, and healthcare. Since its opening in 1984, Unity House has served more than 180 people.

St. Vincent DePaul-Ozanman Inn

Ozanman Inn offers different areas of housing support including one for emergency shelter clients, private rooms, public lounging spaces, as well as areas designed specifically for Veterans. In addition to housing they provide wraparound case management services access to their Open Hand Kitchen. 

Wayside Christian Mission-Jefferson Street

Jefferson Street provides a Low Barrier Shelter (men, women, children), Emergency Shelter (men, women, and children), and Permanent Supportive Housing (men and women) Residents are offered food, individualized care focusing on employment, substance abuse, and spiritual needs.

Office of Housing and Community Development

The Office of Housing and Community Development focuses on increasing the amount of affordable housing in Louisville by partnering with developers and nonprofit agencies that aim to decrease the numbers of homeless in Jefferson County. My Louisville Home works to create and maintain 15,000 affordable housing units by increasing funding, establishing incentives, and expanding already existing programs. Permanent Supportive Housing 

Permanent supportive housing helps individuals who are chronically homeless by providing assistance in securing stable housing, accessing healthcare, finding employment, and building a sense of community.

St. John Center-Sheehan Landing

Sheehan Landing, Kentucky's first single-site supportive housing for homeless, provides 80 furnished apartments that are designed to accommodate those with complex mental and physical disabilities. There is full-time staffing and security while also connecting residents with medical, behavioral, food, legal, and financial supports.

New Life Directions Ministries

New Life Directions offers single parent housing and access to comprehensive resources such as employment, education, medical, and counseling. It aims to help single parents establish a stable home for themselves and their children.

Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund

LAHTF works with agencies across the city to provide grants and loans to build or rehabilitate homes and buildings to address the housing shortage and find ways to help the homeless access safe housing while getting their basic needs met and planning for long-term stability.
