Louisville Metro residents may now fill out an online form to request curbside debris pick-up following recent severe weather events, including tornadoes and flooding.
“When storms hit, they don’t just impact physical structures, they can turn people’s lives upside-down. We’re happy to be able to offer some relief from what we know can feel like an overwhelming burden, cleaning up what is left behind from the storms and flooding,” Mayor Craig Greenberg said.
Curbside service is for residential storm and flood related debris only. Household hazardous waste will not be accepted at the curb.
Additionally, residents must fill out the Self-Reporting Form, then wait for further instructions on when to bring their debris to the curb.
Businesses should contact and go-through their insurance for assistance.
If you cannot access the Self-Reporting Form, or need additional assistance, please contact Public Works at 502-574-3572.
To find the Self-Reporting Form and review frequently asked questions visit the Storm and Flood Debris Cleanup webpage.

Spring is a great time to clean out a garage or closet. But what do you do with those hard-to-dispose-of items? Use our Recycle Coach app to search specific items and find local information about recycling or drop-off locations. Here are five tips for spring cleaning:
-
Make a pile of items that might be useful to someone else. Sell, donate or offer to neighbors. Neighborhood apps and websites are a great way to get rid of things quickly - everybody loves free stuff! Most donation centers will recycle clothing and other textiles they can't sell. Check with your favorite location before throwing textiles in the garbage. If you still have loose, small items, place them in your garbage or recycle them if acceptable.
-
Learn how to dispose of items that are too big for your garbage cart. Large items that aren't usable might just have to be thrown away. Contact your waste hauler about curbside collection. If you have Louisville Metro waste collection, you can schedule a pickup of up to four large items up to once per week. Residents can also drop off up to four large items at the Waste Reduction Center at 636 Meriwether Ave. for free. Residents can also dispose of large items at a Pop-Up Drop-Off event.
-
Recycle old electronics. You can recycle electronic waste at the Waste Reduction Center or at a Pop-Up Drop-Off event (limit three). Some stores, like Staples or Best Buy, also recycle electronics.
-
Dispose of household hazardous waste properly. Residents can drop off household hazardous waste for free at the HazBin, 7501 Grade Ln. Check the website for a list of accepted items, hours and guidelines. Old unusable latex paint is not considered hazardous and should be dried out and placed in a sealed bag in your garbage.
-
Don't wait until spring to get rid of the small stuff! Boxes and bags of small items are not accepted in the city's Large Item Pickup program. Donate or throw away items as needed so they don't pile up!

Public Works Director Jennifer Caummisar-Kern spoke to the Office for Women Ambassadors last week to highlight current and future transportation projects that aim to increase safety and accessibility for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and bus riders. She also explained the concepts of street calming and the impact of painted crosswalks. Her presentation was well received, with many ambassadors asking for more time and depth to learn more about transportation initiatives.
The Office for Women Ambassadors is a group of more than 30 women across Louisville Metro who are participating in a six month leadership and civic engagement program. This was the third class in the series, which focused on the built environment, featuring presentations by Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Parks Alliance, Louisville Metro Housing Authority, Office of Planning and the Office of Sustainability.
This event builds on other collaborative efforts between the Office for Women and Public Works to make the city safer and enhance connectivity and accessibility for everyone.
