Councilman Ken Herndon has partnered with Kentucky Shakespeare and the Parks Alliance of Louisville to sponsor a free performance of Macbeth.
Macbeth tells the story of a Scottish general whose ambition is ignited by a prophecy foretelling he will become king. Consumed by desire and spurred by his wife, Macbeth commits murder to seize the throne, but his actions spiral into tyranny, guilt, and madness.
The shows are free, family-friendly, and don’t require reservations or tickets to attend. Each performance runs for 90-minutes with no intermission.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and bug spray since the performances are held outside.

Councilman Ken Herndon will unveil an honorary street name sign for Reverend Dr. Geoffrey S. Ellis, a dedicated pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, faithful government employee, and former President of the Louisville Branch NAACP.
The intersection of 19th Street and Cedar Street will be dedicated as “Rev. Dr. Geoffrey S. Ellis Way” in recognition of his contributions to the community.

 You might know that millions of birds migrate over Louisville every spring and fall. But did you also know that billions of migrating birds are hurt or killed each year in the U.S.—and it’s due to artificial light at night pulling them off course or causing them to fly into windows and buildings?
With your help, Lights Out Louisville—a Louisville Audubon Society conservation initiative—aims to change that.
The solution is simple, and anyone can be a part of it:
—This April and May, between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., turn off non-essential lights—both indoors and outside—and close your blinds, shades, and curtains.
—By reducing artificial nighttime light during the two biggest migration months in our area, we give migrating birds a better chance of surviving their long journeys.
—With a few simple actions, you’ll help save birds—and save money on your electricity bill at the same time!

To be eligible for the lottery, applications must be received by 8:00pm EST on Friday, May 02, 2025. The lottery for the 2025-26 school year will be conducted on May 07, 2025, and families will be notified of their status by 8:00PM EST on May 13, 2025.
Families earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level, (about $120,000 per year for a family of four) with children aged 3-4 years old are eligible to apply.
Our new school will be adjacent to The Eclipse in Russell, an affordable housing community located in the historic Russell neighborhood. We’ll welcome our future students after we make the space just right for our incoming three- and four-year-olds. We can’t wait to meet them!
LDG Development announced they have signed a ten-year lease agreement with Bezos Academy to open Bezos Academy Louisville – Russell, a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool. The preschool will be adjacent to The Eclipse in Russell—a 280-unit LDG development that is currently under construction and is expected to open in the Winter 2025.
Bezos Academy Louisville – Russell is expected to open in 2025 after construction is complete. Updates about the school opening date, and application for the lottery-based selection process will be posted at www.bezosacademy.org.

 April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2022, over 3,000 people were killed in the U.S. by distracted driving.
Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving.
Texting while driving is illegal in 49 states, including Kentucky. Handheld phone use is prohibited while driving in 30 states.

 TARC 2025: Moving Forward Together is a key strategy to address this challenge and better meet our shared priorities. It is also an important opportunity to redesign Louisville’s transit network to update and innovate service to better match the current and future needs of the Louisville region.
Through this year-long initiative, we will work directly with the community to develop strategies for an updated TARC transit network that will better meet the region’s needs and priorities within the reality of the funding TARC expects to receive over the next 5-10 years.
Public input drives TARC 2025. After hearing priorities from the community during the TARC 2025 Concepts Phase last summer, the TARC 2025 team has drafted three different proposals for a new TARC at three different price points and associated service levels. Community feedback during the draft plan will help to guide TARC in making any changes to each proposal. TARC will be gathering community feedback from March 4 – April 30. Please join us in attending a public meeting, speaking to our team at bus stop pop-ups, and/or taking our survey.

Project Warm, a 501c3 organization under Blueprint 502, has been around for 43 years in Louisville-Jefferson County.
In 1982, Project Warm was created through the financial support of Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) and Metro Louisville Government. Thanks to the generosity of LG&E and Metro Louisville, Project Warm has been able to improve our community, the environment and the lives of people we serve through free weatherization services and educational workshops for low-income residents, veterans and people with disabilities across Jefferson County.
To ensure that Project Warm continues to make a positive impact in the community in so many ways, it's seeking a few board members to join them.

Senior Nutrition (Congregate Meals and Meals on Wheels)

Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)
Adults 55+ years old serve at local organizations—including faith-based groups, Head Start Centers, schools, day care centers and other youth facilities that serve children with exceptional needs—you help children learn to read, provide one-on-one tutoring, and guide children at a critical time in their lives. RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program)
The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program pairs thousands of Americans nationwide, aged 55 and older, with organizations making a positive impact in their communities. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who serve as members of our local RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), choose how, where, and when they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week.  Congressman McGarvey is proud to host the 2025 Congressional Art Competition!
The annual bipartisan Congressional Art Competition celebrates the artistic achievements of our nation’s high school students. The winning artwork from each Congressional district hangs in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year.
Kentucky’s Third Congressional District's Art Competition is open to all high school students in District 3 from grades 9-12. Students should participate in the art competition taking place in the district where they reside - not where they attend school. The competition is hosted online, and the public will be invited to vote for their favorite artwork. Two winners will be selected - an overall winner and a community winner. The overall winner will receive two roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C., to attend the national award ceremony and have their artwork displayed in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. The community winner will receive prizes including having their artwork displayed in the Louisville office for one year.
Submission Instructions:
- Please review the 2025 Rules and Guidelines BEFORE submitting.
- Fully complete the submission form by April 22nd by 11:59 PM to enter the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. Submissions are only accepted through this form.
- Please find submission instructions and required paperwork on our website, including the Student Information and Release Form.
- You may enter multiple pieces into the competition. Please submit one form for each entry.
