Meet Barbara Lewis

Barbara Lewis

On Thursday, February 27, we were honored to recognize Barbara Lewis as our 2025 Black History Month Award recipient for District 14.

Barbara Lewis is a dedicated community servant, educational leader, and advocate for diversity and empowerment. Overcoming early challenges, including time in foster care, Barbara has become a steadfast leader. After moving to Louisville, Kentucky, in 1996, she focused on making a positive impact, particularly in the West End community.

Barbara's dedication to education saw her earn her GED, an associate degree in Early Childhood Development, a Bachelor's in Pastoral and Christian Studies, and she's currently pursuing a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

In 2024, Barbara ran for Jefferson County School Board Representative District 4, garnering 47% of the vote. Her passion for community empowerment is evident in the programs she developed:

  • Liberty House of Freedom Addiction Recovery Program
  • B.O.Y.S. (Born Outstanding Youthful and Strong
  • G.I.R.L.S. (Gifted Individuals Reaching Life Success
  • Think Before You Sink
  • Second Chance Employment

Barbara has also contributed significantly to education and community service, supporting the mentally challenged, senior citizens, and women's ministries. Her vision of "empowering one family at a time" drives her to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

We celebrate Barbara for being a champion of diversity, empowerment, and community transformation!

Could You Have Unclaimed Property?

Unclaimed property

What is Unclaimed Property? Unclaimed Property is generally defined as any financial asset that has been left inactive by the owner for a period of time specified by the law, generally three (3) years. Find FAQ’s HERE .

Each year millions of dollars are turned over to the State Treasurer's Office by businesses who are unable to contact property owners. These funds may be in the form of cash, stocks, bonds, securities, insurance benefits, etc. This site allows you to search the State Treasurer's Unclaimed Property Database to determine if they may be holding unclaimed assets belonging to you or your family or business.
