Please see the below message from the Louisville Water Company...
Starting Thursday February 6th a contractor for Louisville Water will inspect existing utility infrastructure along River Road from Zorn to Transylvania Avenue, which will require the temporary closure of one lane of traffic. Workers will dig small holes primarily in the eastbound lane while flaggers direct traffic around the short construct zone. In an effort to minimize traffic impact, work will wrap up by 4 p.m. daily. The exploratory work is expected to last one two Months.
This work is in advance of a significant infrastructure improvement, Louisville Water Residual Line Project
Louisville Water’s filtration process produces residual solids that must be removed from the treatment plant. The “Residual Line” is the pipeline that takes the residuals from the Crescent Hill Water Treatment Plant to lagoons at our B. E. Payne Water Treatment Plant in Prospect. The system is critical to daily water production at Crescent Hill. The current line, constructed in 1971 is reaching the end of its useful life so we are constructing two new lines for increased redundancy.
The project is being constructed in two segments.
Segment One starts at our Crescent Hill Water Treatment Plant and runs adjacent to Reservoir Avenue to Zorn to Madelle Avenue and back to Zorn Avenue down to River Road. For segment one we will use advanced construction technology to rehabilitate and re-purpose an existing raw water main that was constructed in 1908 . This will reduce construction impacts along the corridor. This project is expected to start mid-March and will last approximately 6 months. One northbound lane on Zorn from Madelle to River Road will be closed during portions of the project.
Segment Two runs along River Road from Zorn Avenue to Transylvania Ave and along Transylvania Ave to our property at the B.E. Payne Water Treatment Plant. This project will include the installation of two dual 24-inch residual lines. In order to maintain the safety of the public and our crews it will be necessary to close River Road during construction of these mains. The construction along River Road will occur in four phases. Starting March 3 the first phase of River Road will be closed to thru traffic from Zorn to Blankenbaker Lane. Access to homes and businesses will remain open. When construction is completed in each phase the road will be paved and reopened as we move east. The project is expected to last 2 years.
