Brandon Malone Is Recognized for Heroic Water Rescue at McNeeley Lake

Last week was what I was calling “Brandon’s Week.”
Last week Brandon Malone was recognized for his heroic actions on January 16th. On that day, he and his girlfriend noticed two girls struggling in the icy water of McNeeley Lake. Brandon immediately jumped into the lake as his girlfriend called 911. Luckily this story has a happy ending. Both girls and Brandon survived.
Mayor Craig Greenberg recognized him Tuesday during his weekly update.
Okolona Fire Protection District and Fern Creek Fire Department recognized him Wednesday at his school, DeSales High School (Louisville, KY) where Brandon was able to talk with them for a while about public safety as a profession.
Thursday, Councilman Jeff Hudson and I, along with all of the Louisville Metro Council were able to present Brandon with a Proclamation for his acts of bravery.
As I said in my speech Thursday night, many of us go through life wondering if we would step up in a moment of crisis. Brandon doesn’t have to wonder because when the moment came, he acted. Brandon is a hero for what he did, and because of who he is. His kindness, courage, and selflessness remind us of the good in the world. He did not seek out any recognition, but his actions left a lasting impact on not only the lives he saved but so many more in our community.
