This week Councilwoman Bast took advantage of the somewhat warmer weather to get out and tour the district. This was a great opportunity to take notes, pictures, and visit areas that constituents have contacted us about as we begin making a list of things we would love to see happen to bring positive change and improvement to the area. This is our home, our community - we want it to be the best it can be for everyone.

Amanda Mills has been a Southend Jefferson County resident since relocating from Illinois in 2001. She has dedicated thousands of hours serving one of Louisville’s most vulnerable populations after having lived experienced. Amanda’s passion to help the houseless community has been a mission for the past 8 years, when she founded the Southend Street Angels.
Once a homeless “at-risk” youth herself she could empathize with those without a home. She saw a need in the community she lived in and began advocating, educating and meeting needs as she was able.
Southend Street Angels began as a homeless outreach group and expanded to a community outreach group over the past two years; a solid team of dedicated volunteers who share a heart to serve others! Today they provide weekly street outreach, host two blessing pantry’s that are accessible 24/7, aid first responders in connecting people in crisis to resources, reuniting families and so much more!
Amanda’s efforts with the Southend Street Angels have been recognized by The John Marshall Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution for their Community Service Award, Today’s Woman Magazine for the Way to Go Woman for Community Award, WLKY Community Champion award, and Save-A-Lot Hometown Hero award.
Her ability to lead a community was most recently shown during the latest rounds of inclement weather as she led the efforts for three pop up shelters by partnering with businesses and other outreach groups, coordinating volunteers and donations, and participating in street outreach efforts to help save lives and limbs. Though the shelters have closed, she has remained committed to advocate for a more streamlined and user-friendly permit process that will allow anyone to open their doors to help too!
