Note from Councilwoman Parrish-Wright

Welcome to 2025! I hope everyone has had a great start to this year! My 48th birthday (or, as I like to say, Earthday) was on January 3rd, and I am so grateful to everyone who sent me birthday messages.

At Metro Council, we had our organizational meeting on January 9th. It was supposed to be on January 6th, but because of the weather, we postponed the meeting to make sure everyone was able to get to the office safely. At this meeting, we elected the Metro Council President for 2025. This year Brent Ackerson, the Councilman for District 26 was elected president

The Democratic Caucus also elected Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins (District 1) as the Caucus Chair and Councilwoman Jennifer Chappell (District 15) is Caucus Vice Chair. The Majority Caucus Chair also serves as the Metro Council President Pro Tem, meaning they preside over Metro Council when the President is either unavailable, or addressing the Council as a Councilmember.

Finally, Metro Council determined which members would serve on each committee. In 2025, I will be serving in the following capacity:

Public Works Vice Chair

Budget Committee Member

Planning and Zoning Committee Member

Public Safety Committee Member

In 2024, I served on three committees, and this year I am excited to serve on (and be the Vice Chair) of an additional committee.

Additionally, Councilwoman Parrish-Wright continues to serve on the following community boards:

The Coalition for the Homeless

The Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (Advisor)

The Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research at the University of Louisville

Louisville Family Justice Advocates

La Casita Center

Reproductive Rights for Kentucky PAC

I was also honored with Congressional Recognition by Representative Morgan McGarvey for being a 2025 Adinkra Alliance Honoree for 2025!

This year has been off to a great start, and I am looking forward to the work we can all accomplish together this year!

It's Ben's Birthday on January 18th!

ben and cw

We are so excited for our Ben Harlan who celebrates a birthday on January 18th. Besides being a fellow Capricorn, Ben brings a wealth of knowledge, energy and support to our District 3 Team and Community. Ben has also decided to invest  in himself beyond his graduate degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Louisville, he has returned for his doctorate. Ben loves his partner Jarrett Warr, being with loved ones and building community. They say your legislative aide can make or break you and I am honored to say that working with Ben makes me an even stronger Louisville Metro Councilwoman. Ben knows I love to help the people and he keeps things in order so that we can have a bigger impact. Ben is ready to serve the constituents of District 3 in 2025 along with Dre Dawson. Thank you Ben and please help me wish him a very happy birthday 🎂

Reverend, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2025

For MLK day this year, the District 3 Office is reflecting on Councilwoman Parrish-Wright's message of organizing and activism from Hanover College in 2024. We can all learn from his legacy of building community and dismantling those systems that oppress us all. Please see the video HERE, and MLK Day events around Louisville below.
