We want to express our appreciation for all the members of the Snow team for their dedication to serving our city. Working 12-hour shifts from Sunday to Sunday, they worked around the clock to keep Metro’s 110 snow routes clear and in safe driving condition during the worst snowfall event the city had seen since 1998.
Though the snow routes are clear, their work continues as 25 crews have been deployed to apply salt on side streets, still ice-covered due to the continued freezing temperatures.
Thank you to our Metro Snow Team partner agencies: Metro Fleet Services, Metro Parks, Metro Codes & Regs (Vacant Lots Division), Public Works: Roads Operations, Solid Waste Management Services (SWMS), Signs & Markings.
Also thank you to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for their assistance during this historic snow event!

SNOWPLOW ON NEWBURG RD. NEAR OLD SHEPHERDSVILLE RD.
Ishmael “Ish” Farris was officially promoted to Public Works Roads Operations Division, West District Manager, on Monday, January 6 (in the thick of the largest snowfall event in 25 years).
Ish has been with Public Works for 15 years. He started as Equipment Operator, then moved on as a Roads Inspector. He has served as a Roads Operations Labor Supervisor for the past 8 years.
Ish is originally from Los Angeles, CA, a BIG Raiders fan, enjoys spending time with family and going to church; and had this to say, “Louisville has been home to me and my family for 25 years, I am a Louisvillian at heart, and enjoy serving my community. I am so excited about what is in store and the opportunity to continue serving and growing in my new position.”

HUGE thanks to Metro Facilities and Public Works Electrical Maintenance teams for the quick response on repairing the lights in the Roads Operations East District’s salt dome. They had a small window to address this issue and didn't hesitate to get it regardless of their respective workloads and deadlines. No doubt that all the loader operators at East District will be very happy by the much-improved illumination inside.
This small, but significant project truly showcases the teamwork and collaboration between Metro departments, and their dedication to better serving our city! THANK YOU!

Thank you for your patience with our curbside collection team! The icy conditions on side streets and alleys can be very dangerous for our crews. We provide quality service and will continue to collect all extra trash and recycling. As weather improves and streets and alleys are salted, we will revisit areas not serviced due to unsafe conditions.
Please follow these guidelines to help our crews:
- Loosen your garbage and recycling carts from the ice.
- Make a path for crews to pull your cart toward their truck.
- Tied bags of garbage may be placed next to the garbage cart.
- Extra recycling should be loose inside a container and set out with the recycling cart.
Week of January 13: Garbage and Recycling collection in safe and clear areas.
Week of January 21 (one day delay due to holiday): Garbage, Recycling, and Yard Waste Collection. Yard Waste crews will collect Christmas trees.
