Snow Event Updates

Metro’s Snow Team has been hard at work for the past 24 hours plowing the 110 snow routes in the Metro (2,734 two-lane miles) and treating them with a salt-calcium chloride mix. Adding calcium chloride to the mix increases treatment efficacy and is done when temperatures drop to 25 degrees or lower to maintain treatment efficacy.

The team will continue working 12-hour shifts to ensure we maintain around-the-clock road service for the duration of this weather event.

A lot of progress has been made, as some of the major thoroughfares as in fair condition. However, due to possible icy patches on the roads we ask that you avoid unnecessary travel, but if you must, here’s what you as a driver can do to help our team during snow/icy conditions:

  • Slow down, don’t rush – approach roads with caution, as they may be icy and slippery
  • Plan ahead – give yourself ample to time, by at least doubling the time it usually takes to get there during normal weather
  • Look out for snowplows and give our Snow Team room to work – Snow plows are big and bulky, and sudden maneuvers around them create additional hazards

Keep up the Snow Team’s snow routes progress  here
